I didn't watch much ACC football, but was there much to talk about outside of Clemson? SEC has a handful of Solid teams, but less than they normally do. Big 12 again had a handful, but nothing really after that.

I think this was a down year for NCAA Football in general.

The Big 10 is much better than the AAC. While the conference may be overrated there is no doubt in my mind that many of the average Big 10 teams would be fighting for the AAC title if they were in our conference.

This year seemed pretty par for the course. There are only a handful of elite teams and they are the only ones really playing for anything. In an era where conferences don't matter much, and many coaches are moving because the amount of schools have a real shot at anything have dwindled. They have even managed to make the NY6 bowls seem like a consolation prize and teams are not as motivated to play for them.

The BCS gave more teams "prestige" while two played for a national championship. The current playoff system has ruined college football.

I strongly disagree.

The only difference between the Big Ten and the AAC is at the top Ohio State and arguably Michigan, although the Wolverines don't have the offense to hang with UCF. At the bottom Rutgers and Illinois are better than UConn, but IDK if they'd beat anyone else in the conference on a neutral field.

How good is PSU really? Appy State took them down to the wire.

After that there is a deluge of mediocrity that would still be mediocre in the AAC: Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Minnesota, Maryland, Indiana,

I agree, and I'm not even sure how good Ohio State is this year. We get it beat into our heads about how good the B1G is, especially in this part of the world. This year, and I'm specifically talking about this year, it was down right average.

Great point. The name on the jersey leads to subjective judgments in polling and beyond and the mid to lower tier of the B10 is often the beneficiary. I read here that Northwestern lost to Akron and beat B10 powerhouse Rutgers by three and won its division.

Similarly, I think Virginia Tech's brand carried them forward this year but they're not world beaters (hope I'm still saying that on January 1). If UC beats them handily, it's still a good win. Conversely, a close loss to "major" brand VT won't be a setback to this program's continued forward momentum.

Of course the other side of this coin is I think Cincinnati has a stronger brand than many here realize. I never believed for one minute UC would get shuffled off to the most minor of bowls against an unknown G5 opponent. The Big East heritage, Orange and Sugar Bowls, ranking this past year in both football and basketball and annual trips to the NCAA Tourney keep building our brand.

The mediocrity in the Big 10 is still better than much of the mediocrity of the AAC.

Throw Wisconsin in the AAC this year, behind their offensive line and I bet they win 10 games. I would take Iowa, and Minnesota over a lot of teams in the AAC as well.

I do believe Penn State would be at most a 1 loss team in the AAC. A bad game early in the season against App State does not define a team. Not every team will win by 40 each game... sometimes guys have a bad game. I would agree Penn St is overrated, but they are still a good team.

UCF, with Milton, wipes the floor with Michigan. The Wolverines are only a year removed from Wilton Speight and Shea Patterson isn't much better. Until they get a decent QB they're never going to be a true contender for the playoff.

Now, OSU vs UCF would be an interesting game. Two teams with incredible offenses backed up by miserable defenses.

Possible but unlikely regarding Wisconsin. There is no real difference among the BIG teams mentioned above and Memphis/UC/Temple/Houton/USF etc.

RE: OT: Football conference championship games
I like to apply my hierarchy of hate (college football edition) when it comes to analyzing the teams for the playoff.

Starting at the highest hate level at working down
to$u
Rest of the little 10 (or Big MAC if you prefer)
West Virginia, Louisville, Pitt, and Syracuse
Texas
Rest of big XII minus II
Rest of ACC
Notre Dame
All of SEC
All of Pac 12
Any G5 school not in the AAC
Rest of AAC besides UC

I'm ok with the playoff this year, but was hoping for Georgia to beat Bama so Oklahoma would also be excluded.

Every year that team in Columbus doesn't make the playoff is a good year as far as I'm concerned

Wow. This is almost dead on for me, too.

I'd elevate the leprechauns up to O$U level, though.
