Fun fact about Kalamazoo.
Did you know that (at least) the first two College World Series were played here? Years were 1947 and 1948. I had no idea until I read this article about the passing of Bush 41.

The first two, then it was moved to Omaha in 1950. Western was a baseball powerhouse in the late '50's. Made the World Series in '58 and '59.

Just one of the many reasons why Hyames Field is considered hallowed ground!

There was a picture in the old Gary Center that showed him playing during one of those CWS games.

I tell my wife that every time we drive by the field, she’s no longer amused.

Besides the first two College World Series being held at Hyames, WMU finished second in CWS in 1955.

At one time the College Baseball Coaches' HOF was housed in Gary Center (1960s).

We had quite a baseball tradition up until Charlie Maher retired in 1967, and other MAC schools started giving more schollies.

When George HW Bush was President he was in Kazoo once-don't remember the reason-and he stopped on Stadium Drive on the way back to the airport and checked out the stadium. Recalling old memories, I suppose.
