Conference USA Championship
Can’t believe that game is on CBSSN. That game use to be on ABC back in the day. CUSA has been passed by the sun Belt now. Their championship game is on ESPN at noon.

Not throwing shade or anything but it is just shocking that game did not get at least an ESPN2 time slot.

ESPN2 was not an option, since that was not passed through to CBS Sports Network by ESPN ... CBS Sports Network obtained the rights to the championship game when they became the primary rights holder this year.

I don't know what the deal was worth, but CUSA's rights last year was pretty far down the totem pole as far as revenue went.

Before I leave to head to Boone I wanted to catch the opening of the 2 hour SBCCG pregame show on App's campus that is on ESPN3. Looked good. How good of job does CBSSN do?

CUSAs biggest mistake was adding FIU and FAU. 14 teams is stupid for a G5 league

RE: Conference USA Championship
Oh the days of CUSA title games on ABC! It was just this decade (2011) when Kevin Sumlin’s 7th-ranked Houston Cougars hosted Larry Fedora’s 24th-ranked Southern Miss on ABC for CUSA Title.

Lots of programs with either a rich FBS history or rich BB history: UTEP, Rice, La Tech, Southern Miss, UAB, Middle Tennessee, WKU, Marshall, Old Dominion, Charlotte. They really needed to stick to their base and just add UNT plus one of UTSA/FAU/FIU for 12. 14 was the killer.

RE: Conference USA Championship
C-USA's problem now is that half of the fan bases are terrible. I mean god awful. MTSU just pulled like 13k for a conference championship game. It was horrendous and they should be banned from the league. Some teams are down right now and that is why the fans are not coming out as much but there are some teams in the league that could be the best and fans could not care less. Its truly pathetic.

C-USA Good fan bases
ODU
Marshall
Southern Miss
La Tech
UAB
WKU
Charlotte

C-USA Bad fan bases
Rice
FIU
FAU
UTSA
MTSU
North Texas
UTEP

I thought North Texas was on the uptick. Their AD spent time in Memphis and some of the programs, campaigns and rollouts are reminiscent of what the Tigers have done over the last five years or so. In fact, when Bowen moves on, I’d hope they’d at least take a hard look at Baker.

Yes their teams are on the up tick but the fans still have terrible attendance. Which actually makes things worse. Sad

Isn't it obvious? Geography. He doesn't live near any of the bad fan bases and lives closer to his good ones.

Basically - he hasn't got a clue.

The North Texas home game attendance this season...

vs. SMU- 29,519
vs. Incarnate Word- 18,538
vs. LA Tech- 30,105
vs. Southern Miss- 18,252
vs. Rice- 25,379
vs. FAU- 18,338 Thursday Night Game

For a season average of 23,355. That seems fairly respectable for a G5 program.

Since you believe ODU has a "Good" fan base, what did ODU's attendance numbers look like this season? 07-coffee3

ODU averaged 19,633 and went 4-8. But that is also 97.5% full. The problem I see for teams like NT, MTSU, Rice and others is their announced attendance is MUCH more than what is actually in the stands. ODU played at Rice the last game of the season and they said there was 18k there when in reality there was maybe 2,000 people at the game. Sometimes this affects ODU when its raining or something but not to that degree and for the most part the announced attendance is pretty close to what is in the stands.

LOL at you saying MT has bad attendance (which is true the last couple of years) and than you brag about 19,633. Yes, we are down in football right now because we have had an apathetic average coach for longer than your school has even been playing football. I like how you also didn't bring up basketball where we lead the league in attendance and had a few games over 10,000 something ODU could only dream of doing.

I am a North Texas season ticket holder. I know numbers get fudged at times, but aside from our Southern Miss game when we had very server weather, the other attendance numbers look accurate. Ask a LA Tech fan that attended, if they saw 30,000 in our stands. North Texas has a great fan base. You don't know what you are talking about.

In 2015 you had 3 games under 11,000. In your 2nd home game in 2016 you had 15,000. It's probably even lower going back to your old stadium.

We had a great fan base in 2015 too. We had lower attendance due to our fan base losing faith in our coach and AD. The coach was fired, but our AD was not. The fans protested our AD by not going to games, withholding financial support, and even paid to have a "Fire the AD" banner flown over the university. The story made the local Dallas media. The gambit worked and our AD was removed. We now have a very good AD, and a very good coach. So, I would say our fan support was very strong in 2015. And that resolve is why we are a much better program now.

Oh ok. I don’t care enough to go back further, but to say UNT has a great fan base is laughable. It will be back to 15,000 once the losing starts. I guess basketball doesn’t apply to the great fan base comment though right?

RE: Conference USA Championship
UTEP has struggled in attendance lately. 2017 was the first time since 1984 that attendance dropped below 20k. It took a winless season and a coach who got fired in the middle of the season to get there. Usually attendance was between 25k-28k, not great by any means but good considering the bad product on the field. Basketball was close to 7k but we had Tim Floyd quitting at the beginning of the season and the team struggled at home and on the road. The only three 8 win seasons in this century, average was 42k, 44k and 48k respectively. The Sun Bowl has been sold out (52k) for games against the likes of Rice and UAB. The Don has been sold out (12k) against teams from the WAC and C-USA. The fan base is there, we are the very rare G5 school capable of averaging 40k/10k in both revenue sports. But until the product on the field and court improves, it’ll be what’s been the last couple of seasons.

My comment was in comparison to other C-USA programs. As the poster separated us into good and bad. I simple responded by showing how we are better then some he believes to be good.

You can live in the past if you choose. I prefer to focus on the future. By the way... We had an attendance of 4,275 at our basketball game last night. Not great, but it is also improving.
