Interesting.

if we beat UCF, I won't care what bowl is out there..I just wanna beat that team

All i care about is winning the next game and the conference championship vs an opponent that has owned us.

Ucf has 12 straight wins over us. We have not won against ucf since 1990 ????

Looks like we didn't play them from 1990 until 2005.

All bowls after that are meaningless. Access is just the better of the meaningless bowls.

A couple of months ago?

Sure.

Tell me how you felt after the Tulane and/or UCF loss.

RE: The impossible could happen?
As it turns out, WE are the highest-profile AAC West team.

To say that I think it was probably someone else last month isn't much of a prediction. A lot of teams lost for us to get here, including some we beat, but it is improbable to say the least.

RE: The impossible could happen?
When you say "highest profile", do you mean like, in terms of a popularity contest? Boy, I sure would like to believe that. Like, we would be first on the minds of the BigXII if they wanted to expand. We have GOT to dominate the West for that reason from here on out, or more correctly, every year we can.

It's a tough league.

We are in no position to dominate. We are doing very well for ourselves, but it was an almighty struggle to get here this season.

Some "insiders" here were saying we did quit a month ago. Said the locker room was divided. And other such nonsense.

We had a couple of bad games. But this team definitely improved after that bye week. Playing good ball down the stretch is a sign of good leadership. I don't like all the play calls and get aggravated with the D some. But no denying that the staff did a good job overall and the players responded.

We could have easily been 10-2 right now. We lost to both Navy and UCF by only 1 point each. Tulane was a real head scratcher.

The team also seemed to come together later in the season. They were used to an offense under Ferguson and needed time to adjust. Tony Pollard in particular has started to show his diverse skills and how he can be deployed as a weapon.

All things considered I consider this a successful season. It should be celebrated.

Yep, I was having this conversation yesterday. Usually 2 conferences losses are enough to put you out of contention. You have UCF going undefeated in conference and a couple more teams with only 1 loss in conference.

Just think of all the teams we have had in the past, bowl eligible but not even in talks of conference championships.

Tulane was a crapstorm of injuries and bad attitudes. They went into the game thinking it was an easy win and all they had to do was show up. The injuries on defense just caught up to us in the 4th quarter.

Actually if we had won out from that point and only had 3 losses, I guarantee we would be in the Access Bowl slot. We received votes this week in the Coaches Poll. Imagine how many more we would've gotten if we were 9-3 this week. Now, we beat the #7 team in the nation and we leap over Boise State or especially if Fresno State wins.

I didn’t think it was possible, but I guess I wasn’t taking into account a possible win against a nicely ranked UCF. I suppose anything could happen now...

Nah. 8-4 is still within reach, and with a rookie QB and the rash of defensive injuries we've suffered, that should be seen as quite successful. Yeah, we had the "bad loss" to Tulane, but none of the other 3 should have been unforeseen. We got stomped at UCF last year early and went on to have a good year.

Just had to go back and give props to this post as well. You took a lot of grief for your optimism. Turns out you were right to believe.

Reading some of the other post is just funny now. But, it's like most everything hindsight. Somebody's gonna be right and somebody's gonna be wrong. In this case, glad you were right.

I will fully admit I didn't think it was likely, just not impossible. The injury to Milton is a massive game changer, much like the injuries to Houston.

The worst thing is that if we beat Navy and UCF we would have played the game at home.
