If Childers leads the NCAA in TD passes, yards, completion percentage, and rushing yards, I’ll give you credit for being the QB whisperer...

Great article. Thanks for posting. The picture of Childers right after the game says it all!

RE: Childers
Watched the game after getting home from Detroit yesterday. Yeah, it's just one game for Childers after an up and down season. But the progress is evident. On both TD throws to Brown the broadcasting crew did a great job breaking down the exceptional work Childers did on each play. The first one, especially, where he looks left and gets the safety to bite on the fake then hits an open Brown in stride was evidence of a maturing quarterback, not someone who just got lucky on this particular night. The pump fake on the winning TD that got the corner to hesitate as Brown turned it upfield was also a great play. Subtle things that made a huge difference. Who knows if he'll ever become consistent and/or dominant, but he was on Friday and the potential seems to be there. One thing's for sure: Childers is the #1 going into next year. I'd be shocked if they brought in a JUCO QB or had an open QB competition at this point.

RE: Childers
It's great that his best game of the season happened to be the biggest game of the season. He showed a lot of good things in the 2nd half, hopefully that confidence will carry over to next season.

That said, one good game doesn't negate almost an entire season's worth of poor and ineffective play. He needs to make some strides in several areas. If he can do that and this offense can be even modestly productive, this team could be scary enough to compete for an access bowl spot. Hopefully he'll follow Harnish's career trajectory and come out his JR year looking like a stud.

Agreed. If Childers could do this on a regular basis the offense would be explosive. Exciting to think about.

Niu receivers actually ran routes in this game too. Just open up the offense trust your players to make plays and you never know , they can surprise you sometimes

I was cursing when Tears dropped an easy crossing route pass early on. Maybe he heard me because after that he was incredible.

Whoa, whoa... Hold your horses, pal. Childers will not finish third or better in the Heisman balloting next year or after...
+1000 - Lynch was one of the, if not the best, skill players in NIU history.. and that's saying something with Wolfe, Turner, Johnson, etc.
I don't see Childers being even close to the runner that Lynch was. Hopefully he can improve and become a more accurate passer (and learn some touch). Lynch also had some playmakers at wr that Childers hasn't had.

By the way, I remember when 7 said before Lynch's junior year that he could be better than Harnish. I thought he was crazy (he might still be), but he was dead on before anyone else said he could do the things he did.

I was the first to say that Lynch would be better than Chandler. Look it up...
Couldn't find it (didn't look), but I believe you. 04-cheers

He was a better runner, even Harnish said that while he was still the starter. I don't think he was a better passer.
