RE: Mike White
Let's sure hope it's someone who can figure out names of the opponents, and be a little more even-handed in the accounts of games and matches. Mike's a nice guy in real life, but goes WAY too far with the rose-colored glasses when praising all things Blue & Gold.

I know many of you all disagree, but it's true. If a writer, no matter who employs him or her, can't be fair, and have *some* objectivity, then credibility becomes greatly diminished.

Mike White runs PR for the athletic department. It’s his job to have rose colored glasses.

It’s been explained to him a hundred times and he can’t wrap his head around it.

I'm not saying that's not what's 'expected' of him - but that expectation is wrong. I've shown *many* examples in the past where the opposing SID (and I'll use that older, preferable term) was 'able' to name ETSU's players, while White and his crew never name oppenents, except for men's hoops. He doesn't have to be the NY Times, or even Nate Morabito (lol), but there is a middle ground.

I know I'm not gonna win this battle - today - but I've just gotta stand up for the ideal way to do this job. An SID can be informative, praise the home team, and yet still do some moderately objective reportage.

It's embarrassing, and unbecoming an institution that tries to pride itself on academic strength, to read the stuff that comes out of there. The volleyball report last night was a horrific example.

I hope most people with any common sense are not expecting reports from the school's own athletic sites to be objective at all. Personally, I go there for the stats or box score, not so much for the write-ups. But I get what you're saying. I would say treating your opponents with some measure of respect and credibility actually helps your own school's reputation and college athletics in general.
