I was driving to Guaranteed Rate Stadium (Chicago White Sox home ballpark) and saw a billboard advertising the ACC Network.

Coach K's wish is coming true- Duke's presence in Chicago is now 24/7. 04-cheers

I live in Baton Rouge, where on my COX cable package the SECN actually has 3 channels available to it (though most of the time only one is in use) and everyone who doesn't have the barest bones package gets it, LOL, but the BTN and PAC 12 Network are on a high tier you have to pay extra for.

I haven't even checked if I am getting the ACCN yet. Probably will on Thursday evening when I want to look in on how many zillions of points Clemson is beating Tech by.

I have Uverse and I get the BTN and all three SECN channels but as Quo said other than in the fall they aren't in use. ESPN aired the opening of the ACCN on ESPNU but I haven't seen it since so it's not on here. A report on an Oklahoma site said the Direct TV deal for the ACCN is within the ACC footprint only. I'll be interested to see if that is true.

I don't see how that's true, given the the reason Direct TV has not picked up the PAC 12 networks is that they, unlike cable, can't turn it on and off individually, and thus have to pay the nationwide prices already negotiated with cable -- the so called Most Favored Nation rates.

"“They did a deal with Time Warner (and others), and that boxed them in, and it boxed us in,’’ Chang said. “The way the deal was structured, the MFN, the packaging, how it was carried — it was difficult to get comfortable with.”

"DirecTV would have been on the hook for $0.10 per subscriber per month for all 15 million (approx) of its customers outside the Pac-12 footprint — that’s $18 million per year — whether those customers wanted the Pac-12 Networks’ national feed or not."

That raises the question of how the footprint is defined. What footprint do you give Notre Dame? Indiana, Michigan, Chicagoland?

I just scrolled through my entire Cox Cable lineup here in Baton Rouge, and unless I blinked and missed it, the ACCN isn't even available for purchase.

E.g., I don't subscribe to the PAC 12 Network, the BTN, or the Longhorn Network, but they are on my channel guide, I could pay more and get them if i wanted.

But the ACCN isn't even available, it doesn't have a channel out there.

CORRECT: Cox doesn't have a contract with the ACCN yet - but they ARE in negotiations. Whether they sign up this month, this year, or a year from now - no one knows yet.

DirecTv customer living in a state that doesn't have an ACC team. You have to get the "Sports Pack" to get ACCN on channel 612.

YES - I think that's very similar to how BTN, PTN and SECN are handled out of footprint.

So, ND's footprint is the State of Indiana and Chicagoland be damned? Statewide footprints are important for public schools, but isn't it reasonable to say those in living in New Hampshire and Rhode Island, might be more likely to watch BC?

ND, Duke, BC, and to a lesser degree Miami don't seem to fit a State definition. WF, Syracuse, and Pitt fit that definiton because they draw their students from within their State or immediate region.

Well, when they're negotiating these contracts they don't care about any of that - they only care about TV markets - and they have to draw the line somewhere. I'm guess that line includes Indiana and may or may not include Chicago.

RE: ACC Network Launch Set
Syracuse and BC are very similar. They get about 1/3rd of their students in state. The other states in the BOS-WASH fill in another large chunk. However, Syracuse acts more like a State School sports wise because they dominate pretty much a 100 mile circle around Syracuse for TV eyeballs. BC is pretty much a nonplayer in Boston unless they are nationally relevant at the moment in FB or Hockey.

Isn’t South Bend, IN part of the Chicago tv market?

For some reason when I think of Notre Dame, I think Chicago not Indiana.

For 49.99 per month, YouTube TV also gets you NESN (in New England), MLB Network, NBA TV and the Tennis Channel. In addition to the Red Sox and Bruins, NESN carries the ACC RSN package, Hockey East, UMass and other New England college games. Certainly worth the difference over Hulu Live in New England anyway.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the ACC RSN package gone now- with all games exclusive to the ACC Network?

No, RSN are carrying games like WCU vs NCSU and Citadel vs GT. Looks to be home of the ACC vs FCS games.
