Thomas should have been Player of the Year, zero questions asked. Why not Satt for COTY? Why penalize a coach for building a good team and winning a title.
Zac Thomas was 138/217(63.6%) for 1,787 yards. 18 TD to 4 INT.
Justice Hansen was 260/388(67.0%) for 3, 172 yards. 27 TD to 6 INT.
Seems pretty no-brainer to me when you look at the stats. Not sure how you think Thomas should have been it "no questions asked".

I think from GS fans perspective Satt has been here before. Possibly 3 Sun Belt titles in a row leaves little doubt he is the top coach right now in the SBC but Lunsford's one year turn around from 2-10 to 9-3 is remarkable not to mention Louisiana's coach deserved some love for what he's done as well.
Has he already won COY? If not this may be his last chance so good for him.
Not to be ugly, but why does that matter? Sure those two deserve love; but the best coach this year was probably Satterfield.

These awards shouldn’t always be just about stats ... Thomas was an elite player on the best team in the conference.

Nope. And this is the real reason I have been so adamant that he deserved it. Nothing against Lunsford. He'll get one.
Well I'm certainly happy for him!

Maybe but as we have all been told ad nauseam App is loaded and is coming off of back to back Sun Belt titles therefore they were one of the favorites this season. Satt should win there while no one (even most GS fans) expected Lunsford to do so well so fast. I'm happy for Satt but surely you can see why our fans think Lunsford was deserving.

ULM has:
2 first-team (both Marcus Green)
1 second-team
3 third-team
4 honorable mention
Not bad. We even had 3 selected on defense, which would have been unheard of last year.

I disagree with anyone saying there's an obvious choice for CotY.

Hansen as player of the year? Is that a joke? What is with the Arkansas State love fest? Do you really need an Honorable Mention category when you have 3 teams?

You guys know we're loaded now, but preseason you all said we'd take a step back... perhaps the voters thought we would too, and were impressed by the continuity?

Sure...Recruiter of the Year it is. I'm kidding of course. It's all good the SBC had three or four really good coaches this year. Only one can win. My point is a case can be made for any of those INCLUDING Satt so it shouldn't be surprising that fans from GS or UL or even Troy might feel their coach deserved to win too.

I had you guys winning 8 games and going 6-2 in conference but yes any team that starts an unknown at QB is suspect before the season which would have been a small step back. We now know App should be a force for years to come.

Hansen, while a good player, doesn't impress me with his play. His stat totals are impressive but much of that is due to the system he is in. You only have to look to Freddi Knightens success as a comparison; the only difference being that Knighten elevated the team while Hansen seems to ride along with it.

The coaches and media of the league rightfully recognized that our inability to win the league had nothing to do with talent, and everything to do with coaching.

You guys are too emotionally invested and not reading between the lines. There were several coaches who did an outstanding job this year. Seeing how the coaches were the ones voting, there is only one purpose to Satt winning COTY, HE GONE and they don't have to face him anymore!

Well we had a 1,000 yard rusher who is on the third team. We also have a WR that leads the Sun Belt in TD receptions and has tied a school record (10) and he's on the third team as well.
But at the end of the day, it's all good.
I have no problem with Satterfield being COTY especially after losing an outstanding QB and having his best RB go down with injury.

Our QB leads the conference in rushing TDs, had zero interceptions (!) all season, and played a role in our setting an NCAA record for fewest turnovers lost in a season. He's honorable mention.
