Ako has to get his head in the game. Lots of silly mistakes the last 3 on the road. Hopefully we reset when we get home...

Are we trying to set a record for total distance away from 3pt shots in a game? We had back to back 3’s and making a couple of more stops we could have been back in the game.

Peterson with his second in a row 0-7 from the field...0-14 is a problem.

I’m not even that mad about most of our shot selection (we’ve been open) but in the context of being stone cold you have to drive the ball and create something. If you have a break away and you haven’t hit a 3 all night take it to the basket. Don’t stop and take a 3 when there is a 0% chance of a rebound.

Actually I meant the 3 comment to mean our giving up open 3’s. The two comments weren’t related...frustration typing.

Feel like this isn't really different than what happened in football. Teams have adjusted to our system. They know how to defend us. They know how to scout us. We're going to have to make adjustments on the fly or we're going to end up in the same spot as last year, albeit with more talent.

Ah ya, credit them for hitting them. We haven’t hit our wide open 3s.

All 3 losses in this road trip were bad, but this is one where I don’t think the other team had more talent than us which is really disappointing. We’ve mentioned needing a team psychiatrist for baseball, I think it’s time we look into one for basketball as well. Shooting this poorly is mental. Peterson has probably never been 0-14 from 3 in his life. Moore is shooting 30% from FT or something ridiculous like that. I can shoot better than 50% and I haven’t played pickup basketball since college.

I would agree. Your most important comment though is the complete lack of point play and someone who can beat his defender off the dribble.

Another missed layup but certainly more life than we have shown.

Some weird stats for a 14 pt loss.

Less turnovers 12 for Rice 14 for TxSt.

19-10 points off turnovers favoring Rice

8 Rice blocks to 2.

10 Rice steals to 4.

But shooting percentage being 10% less and Tx St having 20 assists on their 25 baskets said a lot.

TXST was 11-27 from 3 and 13-15 from the line. Owls were 7-24 and 15-21. More than offsets the Owls’ + stats.

RE: MBB at Texas State
I drove down to see the game tonight -- first time to see the team -- sat on first row behind the bench. We look young and inexperienced....I guess we are.
Lots of coaching going on during actual play, and we are spending all of our time thinking about what we're supposed to be doing, it seems to me.

#42 M-B looks like a promising talent to me. Mullins is most of our offense.
You all know this team much better, but I was impressed with Ako Adams' talent.
Either Peterson or Williams (I think Peterson) has such a strange shot delivery that I can't imagine any would ever go in.
We have a couple of guys in warm-ups that I don't think would've started for my mediocre 3A high school team. One actually played a couple of minutes. What do I know...

We gave up a large scoring gap at the FT line. That's an ongoing problem, isn't it. Seemed that Texas State was very near 100%, and they were also unconscious from 3 pt land at times, even with close defense.

We seemed to struggle all night just to maintain our composure on offense --- has that been typical, or was Texas State's defense that tenacious?

Coach Pera, bless his heart, is really passionate. Trying real hard....but I think he almost dove for the ball himself at one point, during our press. Fans laughed; refs looking at him like he was alittle loony.

Williams has the strange shot. Peterson has struggled for 2 games though.

We’ve had FT problems all season except Ako.

Our offense was streaky all season. The pressure tonight wasn’t near as good as BYU or Wichita state. They hedged hard up top on our handoffs and had enough size down low to alter some shots but we should be able to handle that.

I hope coach P does yoga or something to relax. Last years team had to add quite a few years to his age from stress, I was hoping this year would be better.

Disappointing road trip. I too think we need to make changes in the starting lineup.

If we go 1-1 vs Texas State over this 2-day period, I'd much rather our win be today.

I noticed that too late last night as I „replayed“ the game by reading through this thread.

Rice should never lose to Texas State in anything. *miffed*

3-0 at home and 0-5 on the road so far. This was a game the Owls really needed to win. Bad road trip with little to be pleased about as far as improvements as a team. I will be interested to see how they look like against Lamar at home Saturday afternoon.
