I don't believe it. This is Heupel's job to lose.

That would be a good hire for GT.

Happy for Collins if true.

Wouldn't be mad, but I don't think they're hiring him. Looks like Elliott.

Stansbury (GT’s AD and ex-UCF AD) clearly likes the O’Leary coaching tree. 2 of the 3 guys mentioned were on UCF’s staff Key and Collins.

Heupel's buyout is $10 million. Someone has to be really wanting him.

Could you imagine a triple option variant with his offensive pace? AND with the talent at RB that UCF currently has, but slightly better?

OUCH.

Does GT demand that a new coach run the triple option?

No...but they want one that can make the transition to something like the spread not that arduous. They'll probably have to offer a 5-6 year deal as a sweetener if they change offenses.

I would be VERY surprised if GT goes with the PJ tree. Delusional GT fans and boosters refuse to know how good they had it.

Something in between PJ and Air Raid would be believable... are Tulane folks worried about losing Fritz?

If Kenny N moves on from Navy, big IF, I hope Navy raids Utah State for Matt Wells. He has history there and Tulsa.

He was given a nice contract extension before this season and the recent firing of the OC seem to suggest he's here for at least another year or two. He finally made it to 6 wins in year 3... there's been steady progress but it's been somewhat slow. He should've somewhat easily made it to a bowl last year and 7-8 wins this year. He had the pieces in place but there were some fairly large coaching errors (playcalls, personnel mismanagement) that kept him from really excelling. Had about 3/4 games gone the other way I think he'd be gone right now.

I honestly had to look that up. 1997-2001. There is ZERO nostalgia in Navy fandom for those few years.
The best thing about that was that the horrors eventually brought back Paul Johnson. 2000-2001 Navy was 1-20. Opinions may vary as to the absolute nadir but for me it was at my ten year reunion: 70-7 loss to GT (coached by George OLeary). (That was September 8, 2001 so it is also all bundled up with events of less than 72 hours later)

Weatherbie had had some success with Johnson as OC, peaking in a good 96 season that ended with an Aloha Bowl win over Mariucci's Cal Bears. When Johnson went to Georgia Southern, Niumatalolo was promoted to OC. Weatherbie and Niumatalolo clashed, ending in a firing at the McDonalds on Route 2. (Niumatalolo today will say the clash is on him - head coach is the head coach and the guys below need to defer more than he did then). Wells then moved up to replace Niumat as OC - for the 1-10 and 0-10 years.

Does this mean Gt is ejected and can’t get a new coach until the 2nd quarter

I don't think GT wants to run the triple option anymore. Something more of a RPO/Spread option which is much more fun to watch and frankly a much better offense is more likely. Outside of Clemson the ACC is trash so a new coach could get GT up to speed very quick.

Not to mention GA has become a big talent hub in its own right. Whoever gets that will be able to sell kids on playing in front of their family every weekend in Atlanta.
