If we could get Teis to fumble through some unscripted questions....

I love the hire given our circumstances but Teis still needs to go. I dont care if we go undefeated next year

Congratulations Bobcats fans. It's always good to get a new coach in early in the process.

Denise has already issued a statement praising Larry for the new hire. Pretty clear he ain't going anywhere. Not defending Withers, his record was horrendous and he needed to go. But I think this whole thing was calculated by Denise and LT. Fire Withers to distract from the whole Fire Teis movement.

Then hire a guy and hope that he improves the program enough to bring back fans and donors, further taking the heat off Larry. I don't know what she sees in LT, but for whatever reason they appear to be joined at the hip, and Larry ain't going anywhere at least not while Denise is calling the shots.

Sure you already saw it, but rumor is the Spavital hire got a BIG donor back on board, and as we all know, Larry can only handle two-three fans, so they got what they wanted.

Jake Spavital is a good hire for Texas State. The offense at Morgantown is a well oiled machine and consistently good!

I'm really excited about this hire. If he can implement his offense and we can keep our defense progressing from this year, we should be a contender next year.

I'm not feeling the hype. The guy is 33 years old and has yet to pick a staff with our budget. I really need to see that come into play. Another huge problem is that #FireTeis and #FireTrauth are both still the gatekeepers to TXST Athletics.

Texas State's D was solid most of the season. Someone needs to scoop up those coaches.

Yeah, i really hope to keep Woods on. Some lucky team is going to snatch those guys up. Our defense would have even better if we'd had a serviceable offense.

He's had some downs with some crazy ups. Great coach overall.

Hope he's successful, just not against Troy. 03-razz

And Spavitals brother will be DC. He was most recently the DC at Texas Tech.

@Keff_C

Former #TTU co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Zac Spavital will join his brother’s staff at #TXST as defensive coordinator.

Love the Stitt hire. Hate the Z Spav hire. We don't need defensive guys from Texas f'ing Tech...

I'd have been far happier just retaining Woods. What ever happened to the supposed nepotism clause that kept baby Fran from ever being DC under Fran? Guess that wasn't really a thing?

Both Spav brothers are fantastic recruiters---so that will help. On defense, I think it will look alot like what David Gibbs ran at Tech and Houston. Aggressive blitzing defense that tries to force mistakes and generate turnovers.

I know the Tech defense wasnt great--but the Gibbs/Spav duo improved the defense up about 40 spots from almost rock bottom. One other thing to consider---any team thats running a hurry up pass happy offense like the Air Raid will run more plays faster and will cause more clock stoppages. That translates into much longer games and more possessions per game to defend---so any DC from a team using an Air Raid type offense is never very likely to in the 25 defenses because they defend so many more snaps and defend so many more possessions. Worse yet, if your in the Big12---where everyone is running pass happy hurry up RPO offenses--its even less likely you'll be even in the top 60 because both teams are running offenses that lengthen the game--which means even more possessions per game to defend.

RE: Jake Spavital to TXST
Thanks for the info. Nice to hear a positive opinion from somewhere they've been to before.

We've got a pretty good defense for him to start with and return all 11 starters. So not exactly an uphill battle personnel wise. Eager to see what Z Spav brings and hoping it's something good.

Edit: Oh yeah and I'm looking forward to seeing what the Spavs can do on the recruiting trail.
