BG Hires New Football Coach
Welcome to the nest. Please be better than the last fool.
Quote:Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger has announced that Scot Loeffler has been named the 20th head coach of the Bowling Green football program. Loeffler comes to Bowling Green after serving as Deputy Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Boston College.
"I want to begin by thanking President Rodney K. Rogers, Athletics Director Bob Moosbrugger and the Board of Trustees for the opportunity to be the head football coach at Bowling Green State University," Loeffler said. "Bowling Green has a rich football tradition along with an incredible academic reputation. I'm honored to be a part of this great University. My family and I look forward to developing a program that will make all BG faculty members, students, former players, alumni and fans proud! My family and I are extremely excited to begin our mission!"
Loeffler's coaching career, which spans back to his time as a student assistant at Michigan during the 1996 season, includes stops at Michigan, Central Michigan, Florida, Temple, Auburn, Virginia Tech and Boston College. He also spent a year coaching quarterbacks for the Detroit Lions.

Probably like Ratner in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He was the assistant to the assistant manager.

I think this is a very solid hire.
-Ohio native who understands the culture of the state.
-He's been at a lot of jobs so he knows how to quickly adjust. Exposed to different coaching perspectives at those jobs.
How about the money for this hire? Anything official?

No confirmation on this, so take it with a grain of salt.

That figure appears to be accurate. It probably came from The Blade.

VT Coach Beemer gave him a glowing review.
Time will tell. Has to be better than Jinks...but that's a low bar.

I think we are seeing MAC salaries level off around 600-700k compensation with the exception of Lester at WMU and Candle at Toledo who are more.
That is plenty enough to attract a good coach.

At the WMU/UM game this year, not far from the stadium, I saw an orange BGSU flag flying in front of house near the stadium. You?

One so rarely sees the word “accurate” followed by “It probably came from The Blade”.

Nada, I just work near Ann Arbor. I live about a half hour due south of Lansing.

CMU & BG both hire offensive minded coaches. In today's game the vast majority of hires are offensive based guys and that goes for the Pro's as well.

RE: BG Hires New Football Coach
The MAC is in a different era now with new HCs that are getting compensated at least 600k-700k.
Twenty years ago when FCS coaches were making 75k and the MAC was offering 100k a lot of FCS coaches didn't want to screw themselves for a marginal jump and a good chance of being out of a job in 5 years.
Now with the difference of 200k FCS to 600k MAC that is a difference of 400k a year or 2 million over 5 years. That is a no brainer type difference and with the way the MAC is setup where if you have a good team you can be on TV and be in a bowl every year its possible to sustain a longer term program.
For example EMU they are not in a bowl every year but they have the ability to play 6 home games a year and schedule in some CUSA, MWC, SBC, Army, Liberty ect. to pad the win totals. Frank Solich is a master at that program sustainment with Ohio.

Wrong. He's Associate Head Coach/Linebacker Coach. Pelini is the DC.

Georgia Southern. He was there as Head Coach in 2006, going 3-8.
