That would be because we could not stop Grady and Axel Gudmondsson from driving to the basket. I’m not upset as much about the 3 ball defense, than the inability to stop the drive down the stretch. Now part of that might be because of how tight the Refs were calling the game.

I am too. This team will easily compete in the CAA, especially with our new rotations and defense. McGrath has done a very good job with this group.

What D? While I agree it was improved last few games we had zero ability to get a stop tonight. The way we shot we win with just a few stops
Whole heartedly agree. The last 10 min of the game I’m not sure if we even got a stop on D.
The few times we did, they got an offensive rebound and wound up scoring on the second chance

Well, I was referring to the entire game and the improvement over the last several games. I don’t just look at things in a “living in the moment” perspective. I was agreeing with 70’s that we are in really good shape heading into CAA play. You and hoops can dwell on the last 6 min of this Davidson game if you want, but even winning this game means nothing if we’re not improving at the end of the season. The players and coaching has vastly improved over the last several games to the point that we were very much in this game and well positioned to win.
Being all sour grapes about this close loss is futile and lame when you look at the big picture and overall direction this team is trending.
With the subject being improvement. Is this my cue to say "I told you so?" Or should I have chimed in when Cylla's ability to shoot 3s was mentioned?

See my previous post in response to Hoops about being tired of moral victories. We are showing improvement and IMO a hard fought loss to a very good Davidson is better than playing a bottom NC D1 program and beating them by 10-15 pts. Was just pointing out where we need to improve on D. I firmly agree this will pay dividends in CAA play despite our OOC record thus far.

They didn’t hang 90 in 6 minutes, if THIS was a good defensive game we are in trouble.
I can't, for the life of me, understand why CB subs when someone is hot? Ty Taylor hit 2 back to back 3's and was subbed out right after. But that isn't all, anytime some gets hot, he subs them out. Anyone have any insight or thoughts about this?

Davidson's coach made adjustments after the first half and we didn't. After only taking six FT attempts in the first half...ZERO until four mintues were left, they had TWENTY free throw attempts in the second half. It was obvious they were going to drive and pound the post to draw fouls. We could not stop their guards from driving, period
I thought we did a good job of mixing up the defense in the first half with an occassional press. They didn't beat us on it once, and it slowed down their offense and are some clock. We didn't press, zone, trap or do anything different in the second half to counter their parade to the FT line. Since they were knocking down 3's anyhow, i'd have liked to have seen some zone to stop penetration.
Overall, the players played well. As much as I like Cacok, he has got to stop with the stupid fouls in the middle of the court. No idea why on earth he tried to set a pick on a guard coming up the floor. And for him, one extra foul is a big deal since he sits a lot due to fouls.
I really thought this was one we should have won and we almost did. Not going to win many when you give up 90+ points though. Until we come up with a way to defend, we are going to be a .500 team at best.
Watched the second half. Defense struggled but I’m generally pleased with recent trajectory of our team. Ball movement and offensive sets looked crisp. Davidson didn’t miss a theee the last ten minutes. Toews is the real deal and I can live with the rare slip up on his part.
Credit to C.B. and staff for not losing this team during a brutal part of the schedule. Need a better turnout in the upper deck for this game. Davidson was a great home and home game and we’re lucky we got that series. Top notch mid major program.
Davidson’s number 4 in most recent mid major poll. If you would have told me two weeks ago we’d have a chance to hold onto the lead with 5 minutes left, I’d have laughed in your face. I went to the Davidson game last year. That was painful.
