I think he's our best pro prospect. He's a project but has the tools to eventually be a pro player.

RE: UC vs Arkansas Pine-Bluff Game Thread
It was total domination and while this is one of the worst teams we will play all year, they haven't been blown out like this all year. They hung with San Diego State (Who beat XU) most of the game. They might have had as many turnovers tonight as they did all season combined (I want to say I read they only average like 7 turnovers a game). Their leading scoring has been a machine averaging 28 points a game and we frustrated him all night and held him to 7.
I think this team is finding confidence and their groove. The next three weeks will be telling.

Not being rude, but do we have a big enough sample size on Diara to peg him as our best pro prospect?

He has the potential to be something special, and I'm glad people feel hyped about it but geez...

Does anyone else feel like Sam Martin is a little more talented than our typical token white walk on. He looks like he could probably play at a low level D1 school pretty good, and even parlay some backup minutes for us down the road. I know everyone looks good against APB, so maybe I'm a little off on this one.

A more reasonable assessment. Yeah, he reminds seems like a decent MAC guard.

I think this is a stretch but great to see him give good minutes last night.

Agreed. And I'd like no worse than a split in the two afterward.

The Aztecs. APB was only down 2 early in the second half before SDSU pulled away for good.

I'd say Ivy League level but regardless he's the most talented walk-on we've had in some time.

Always glad to see a win. But really, there's still little support for any argument that this UC team can score enough points to compete and win in December and beyond against top forty teams.
We all hope they do. Realistically though, we have a large sample size now with this coaching staff (more than a decade), that suggests UC will blow out inferior teams (as most high and mid majors will) only to see players tighten up and miss shots against quality opponents. Or a failure to move the ball on offense and penetrate the lane for good looks or kick outs to open shooters when those scoring droughts set in.
There are encouraging signs--I really like Williams floor game and what he adds. But we're still looking at lots of projects offensively.

I have to laugh when fans react to Sam Martin with " Oh look, the walk on just made a shot". Sam Martin started on St. Xavier's varsity his freshman year (unheard of). He is the son of a coach, has excellent 3 point shot, and excellent free throw shooter trapped in a smaller vertically challenged frame (the antithesis of a prototypical UC basketball player). Having said that he could get some serious minutes in the MAC and any Division II team. He could be inserted into a game for a given scenario ( need free throw or another 3 point threat ) on this team and get the job done IMO.

I bet mick considers him a big guy.
We have seen this play out for years. Mick's guys look great against North East Central State Teachers and Normal College but when they play Xavier or Nevada they get beatdown.

Definitely going to get better. He's only been playing basketball for 3-4 years. From what I have heard he along with Prince and Eli literally came from the poorest of conditions in Africa.

Logan Johnson is quickly becoming my favorite.
I'm betting that at some time in his life, he's had the nickname "psycho".

Yeah not a lot to take away from this one. Huge stretch coming up though
This. No way I'm getting overly excited about this one like some are. We wont play anyone close to this bad all season.

Exactly. We are going nowhere with him running the show. He doesn't create for anyone, never gets into the lane, he simply doesn't do anything you expect your PG to do on the offensive end.

More accurately, he doesn't do EVERYTHING you expect your PG to do. I expect my PG to have a high assist rate...he leads the Bearcats in assist rate. I expect my PG to protect the basketball...he is easily the best on the team at not turning the ball over (his turnover rate is 6.3 half as much as the next best on the team) and one of the best in the country. He's also been really efficient on offense...has the highest kenpom offensive rating on the team this year. He defends well.
People love to look at what Jenifer isn't and seemingly ignore any positive aspect to his game. He's a solid role play for this team and is being used as such.

One of the most accurate statements yet, my opinion is Micks coaching style changes against quality opponents, he himself seems to be more uptight( taking guys out after one mistake, calling every offensive set, the mean face ) hard to play loose when players are uptight. He needs to be just as relaxed as he was last night and let his kids play. Thoughts.....
