I wouldn't be shocked if they end up going thru Facebook or Amazon for a large portion of their new deal.
That's what i was thinking.....it's not a real good time to be renegotiating tv contracts.
On the other hand, our payouts can't go anywhere but up.
Things can ALWAYS get worse. Don't say otherwise.
ALWAYS.
If the rights fall apart, we'll be on Amazon / Netflix, CUSA will be on Twitter, and the Sun Belt will be on public access TV...
I have a pretty strong feeling that we'll be on Amazon or Youtube. Cable is dying and if the Pac-12 is feeling the pinch, I can't imagine that we wouldn't. Larry Scott is a total and complete failure. Surprised he hasn't been fired.
I'm fine with Tier 3 getting creative. We really need the exposure of a major media player for Tier 1 FB / BB, but I we can start the move to alternative delivery services I suppose.
Not for nothing, a college friend of mine works tech (very senior) at Netflix and I brought up the potential of streaming live sports and getting into that.
He said content wasn't his department, but the tech wasn't there yet for live streaming of sports. Further, it took Sling TV a year to not suck (I'm an original Sling customer, invited beta before they went live), so I can't imagine the transition of live is going to be smooth, versus streaming archived / server content (buffering, bottlenecking , etc).
Still, it's interesting. I'd be down to be on Netflix over Prime, but only b/c I am a Netflix member...
I just hope we stay on ESPN for Tier one, it's still the place people associate with big time sports...

Industry calls them FANG (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix & Google).
But Netflix has said many times over the past year that they have no plans to bid on live sports. Here's Forbes from 2 months ago, September, quoting Netflix's head of biz development at an industry conference. https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevemccask...9ccb5cb8a9
Why It Makes Sense For Netflix To Have 'No Plans' For Live Sports Content
Netflix says it has no plans to invest in live sports rights, comments which will disappoint sports organizations around the world who have courted online streaming services in a bid to increase revenue.
. . .
However, she said that any interest in sport does not extend beyond documentaries at this stage.
Sports streaming
“I think in terms of live sports there’s nothing we can do differently from a television broadcaster, so it doesn’t add additional value,” U.S. publication Variety quotes her as saying. “You can never say never, but there’s no plans to go into that.”
This approach contrasts with that of its great rival Amazon, which has not only mimicked Netflix’s strategy of creating original drama and documentaries but has expanded into live sport.
