Mack Brown ?
BurntOrangeNation.com has article up with title “UNC makes worst hire in history of college football”03-lmfao Guess as long as the hoops program is OK, it doesn’t matter. Hopefully, Stanford basketball kicks it into gear and that is where you find the next UNC basketball coach

Brown 2.0 is definitely not my first choice but I understand why UNC/Rams club is doing this. Brown will have no problem getting the checkbooks to open or selling season tickets. His staff will be a truer indication of how serious this hire is about winning.

RE: Mack Brown ?
If they get MB relatively cheap and hire a pair of name brand coordinators...it could work

They better open the checkbook wide for those coordinators. And at Mack's age, any new gig is going to be almost like an interim assignment, opening the possibilty for one of those coordinators to rise to the HC spot sooner rather than later.

RE: Mack Brown ?
Mack was excellent back in the day with getting funds to those who needed he wheels greased. Most importantly he will not embarrass anyone at UNC even if he is caught red handed passing out cash. His demeanor fits perfectly with Chapel Hill. That's an important thing.

I don't know that he can sell tickets. The social fabric of UNC-Ch keeps becoming more feminine and more liberal to the point that football is anachronistic. When UNC-Ch is not cheating to keep players eligible, there will be attrition and all the past methods of keeping a kid eligible will be under scrutiny.

Finally, the image of a black kid working on the State of NC's largest plantation is a difficult look to overcome. You don't take out 12,000 seats and easily recover the image of the program. Mack might be able to get UNC-Ch competitive with Duke and NC State again, but he can't challenge Clemson.

I really can't believe that this is going to happen. This also happened pretty fast, was this already in the works? He did have some success in the past, so maybe he can restore UNC to where they once were?

UNC is where they once were - both mediocre and up and down. The question is can he take them past that. He left Chapel Hill for Texas because he knew he could never compete for a national championship at Carolina. He still can't, but maybe at this stage of his life he is OK with that. And I'll bet Carolina is OK with that as well.

I don't know how accurate this is ... in Louisville, people are tied up in knots on Brohm Watch ... but what I heard was Gene Chizik as DC, and Cliff Kingsbury as OC.

That could work out pretty well for Mack.

Why in the world not just hire Chizik? I think most State fans are good with this hire. 03-wink

Because the wheels in the Ed Foundation want someone with respectability as the face of the program and no NCAA baggage.
