yes. But also the over the top crap that some gas bags online have been doing. They're just pissed they didn't go far enough in their opinion....

So the NET ratings came out for today, and 1 thing I can really tell just from these first 3 days of results and corresponding NET moves- how your opponents do matters a lot....

Just as 2 examples.....
UConn who had beaten Syracuse earlier- was #47 going into last night. Syracuse beats Ohio St, and UConn now is up to #33.
Temple had lost to VCU earlier- was #68 going into last night. VCU loses to Old Dominion, and Temple is now down to #89.

The thing I can tell is now with a week into the NET ratings- you look at them now and they are actually very reasonable.

Didn't realize the MW got 2 teams in the top 20 now. Utah St at #16 with Nevada #9

definitely looking at the NET ratings now you can see impact of opponents games being gigantic....

Clemson droped last night from 52 to 74. Why? Nebraska lost to Minnesota, and it made that big of an impact...

conversely Utah moved up last night from 157 to 136. Why? Minnesota beats Nebraska and Tulsa beat Oklahoma St

Pointspread definitely matters as well... You win close against bad teams you are going to get dinged...

so looking at the NET- they added today to the Nitty Gritty report Net Efficency and TVI- team Value index.

Just looking quickly- of the top 34 teams- 22 of the top 25 in net efficency are in there. The worst team ranked #82 in this category.

Meanwhile
TVI- Team Value Index: It includes the opponent, whether a team won or lost and the game location. There is no scoring margin in this component.

of the top 34 teams- only 7 of the top 25 are in there. Meanwhile 6 of the bottom 100 are in there in this category.

So at least right now- MOV is absolutely king in this.....

What is strange is TVI is supposedly ahead of Net Efficency.

So one thing that I'm noticing is that the concept of a quality loss is almost totally gone....

where before with the RPI you could play a good team and lose and either not drop or even sometimes improve....

yesterday #65 Notre Dame lost to #16 Va Tech by 15....

ND is now #76 while VT is #13.

In the RPI- Notre Dame actually is up by more than VT from that game.....

yeah and no. I mean, neutral site games have taken over so much now. Just looking there are only 5 teams in the top 25 with fewer than 3 road/neutral wins- Marquette being only 1 with just 1....

And of those 5 teams- all of them have at least 3 quad 1/2 wins so far.... with at least 2 quad 1 wins.

Mark Adams (the guy who came up with a way to help mid major conferences boost RPI right before the system changed) has been tracking NET vs. RPI info on his FB page. His conclusion thus far is that it helps the top seven big budget/resource conferences.

the thing about the NET that I find so interesting is that it really feels though like Gonzaga's Mark Few had a big part of this. Not having SOS mean everything would be huge.....

the NET is used just like RPI in that it will determine the tier wins. So instead of it being for tier 1 top 30 home RPI wins, it's now top 30 NET wins. etc.

That may be so in non-conference play but what happens in conference play when there is a more even distribution of home-away games?

The power conferences rack up losses in conference play plus play more close games than a team like Gonzaga where its all blow outs. Darling teams have an advantage in conference play.

Most ACC (except Duke and Virginia) and B1G schools in the list are overrated. Most SEC schools in the list and Kansas are underrated.

We know. I think what BruceMcF was saying is that the Selection Committee used the RPI and quality wins, with the quality wins being arbitrary and not referring to any formula or the RPI tiers. IOW, the RPI and RPI record against each tier was not sufficient to rank the teams exactly how the Selection Committee did. BruceMcF wanted to know if the Selection Committee will use NET only, or NET and quality wins with the quality wins being arbitrary.
