Speaking of not taking long, Sanford at WKU canned today after just 2 years. Hopefully once ODU's stadium is built and substantially paid for Selig can be more proactive firing under performing coaches.

By all rights, BW should have been fired.

No, not "by all rights." There are plenty of reasons not to fire Wilder. FOr Sanford, he took over a team that had been really good and ran it into the ground. There is no reason to have Mike White at QB and win 6 games

Interesting subtweet from a former Monarch

Claims Malone "was best coach on staff, the problem was definitely not him" and "he had been trying to change the ODU culture".

You are going to see a lot of players come out in support of coaches, it's very common. Brandon Addison came out in support of Perryman.

Many came out in support of Rondeau, Dee, and Coach Z.

And that is where your stats break down.
For a number of years we have padded our stats, both on the ground and in the air, against lesser programs. However, the "book" on us was written all the way back at least to Maryland, when teams realized that we almost exclusively run inside zone. They then were able to stack the middle and blitz (the better defenses don't even blitz), containing our run and pressuring our QB at the same time.
This is the reason that ultimately we still must have a QB who can scramble and throw accurately on the run.
Drop back passers will always be at a huge disadvantage in our scheme unless we have an NFL OL.

This also contributes to our frustrations in the red zone, even WITH the scrambling QB. Teams that can contain our inside rushing attack can zone our receivers, who get a lot of yards between the 20s, but Cover X zones compress inside the 20 making it much more difficult to find an open receiver. Thus we score less than would otherwise be expected based on total yardage.

This year we overcame that against teams with the smaller DBs, with ally oop passes to Duhart and Fulgham.
Against taller and faster DBs we were not so fortunate and our scoring offense broke down.

Holy crap... The things I'm reading and conversations on Facebook and Twitter between old well known starters on both offense and defense players is crazy. These guys seem to not like Wilder and allude to issues in the program dating back to FCS days.

Go over to odublitz on Facebook. Click on some of the old players who left comments. One of the players has a running post on thier page as of 945 tonight with more old teammates piling on thier thoughts of the program and coach.

This isn't new.

I bought tickets through FIU for our home game against them in 2014 (remember actual sellouts?) and there was someone in the visitors section who seemed to be a former player (I didn't recognize them) ripping Wilder to anyone who would listen.

Again, those stats take into account strength of the opponent and game situations.

I would have to go and look at our numbers in the red zone (over the years). I would imagine none of us know how we stack up compared to average.

Of course we didnt do as well against bigger, stronger players. Who does?

I only saw Colby Godwin on odu blitz. FWIW, when you have coaches 105 players over the course of 10 season, there are gonna be some that love and some that hate the coaches.

Im good friends with one of the ex players that was kicked off by wilder. He, surprisingly, says good things about him as do the group he mainains contact with (that were at the stadium last week)

I am not sure that I would describe the 2016 defense as "solid".
Total defense was 96th in the Nation and more importantly 4th worst in CUSA , against arguably the easiest schedule (relatively) we faced since 2009.
Our blowouts were a result of David Washington and an anomalous schedule.
We beat EMU by 4, and they were arguably the weakest FBS team to receive a bowl bid.

I don’t know where you got your numbers from but the 2016 defense was 49th in the nation(3rd in CUSA) in total defense and 57th in the nation(2nd in CUSA) in scoring defense. That defense was very solid.

Meh. That’s not the feeling I get. Players get disgruntled if they don’t get much playing time in a pass heavy offense or passed over for more talented players. Happens everywhere. No real juicy details there on ODU Blitz, especially since those were the FCS days where it was mainly winning.

You just have two camps: those who still like Wilder and believe he can right the ship and those who hate his guts and would love to see him thrown into oncoming traffic on Hampton Blvd.

I’m sure we all have our adversaries from leadership positions we may have held in organizations who just can’t see or share your vision. Part of the job.
