It has to become a part of their offense or they will not move up in the MAC. Do I think just by taking more it means they will win more of course not! But you cannot make them if you never take them and you will not get out of the bottom of the MAC without taking and making some 3’s
I think this year NIU will not be at the bottom of the MAC for taking 3s because they are dishing off the ball and setting up open looks for teammates. Before this year everything was one on one and most shots were contested. Geno has given up the ball and found open teammates for open 3s and now his stat line is getting fat. In past years after many games I wondered to other NIU fans why can't NIU never get as many open looks at 3 as there opponents. It was never even close. This year has been a different story. I do agree with your tally for Levi that just running out at a guy is not a contested shot.

Huskiefan87, that’s a pretty spot on analysis thanks for the input

RE: NIU women’s b-ball
Today’s women’s game was an example of three pointers made being more important than shooting them at a good percentage.

NIU stats: 31-74fg for a 41.9%, 11-36(3ptrs) for a 30.6% that’s bad

North Dakota St stats: 26-62fg for a 41.9%, 7-17(3ptrs) for a 41.2% excellent

North Dakota St had too many turnovers costing them a chance at more shots.

Huskies made five more baskets in the win and four of them were 3’s

How did Illinois lose to Notre Dame last night. They made more 3s than Notre Dame :) if the number of attempts are reasonably close then I agree percentages are not as important. But if you are talking about a team shooting substantially more three point attempts to get slightly more threes I disagree. There are just so many other factors that go into it. For example, I see stat line you posted and what jumps out to me is NIU had 12 more FG attempts overall which is a sign of those turnovers. Stat lines really have to be taken into a larger context of other stats as evident by your example with NIU

RE: NIU women’s b-ball
I never said the team that makes the most wins 100% of the time. I also pointed out the turnovers for North Dakota St as a reason they didn’t get more shots. Norte Dame was able to overcome U of I making more threes by making 11 more free throws. And even with that they barely beat them had U of I made the three at the buzzer they win. My point is taking and making some have to be a part of your offense and in the past they haven’t been for the men’s team.

Mad dawg, what would you do if you were the women’s coach. They have made 41-137 three pointers for (.300%) which is bad. They are taking 27 a game. Would you stop them from taking so many per game? I would not because I believe despite the low percentage of makes it’s a threat that they need to be successful.

I totally agree that 3's are important, but the stat cannot be looked at in a bubble.

How about the fact that the NIU women had only TWO turnovers the entire game? TWO......maybe that had more to do with the win than how many twos or threes shot or made had in the game. Kudos to playing that clean of a game. I looked at the box score about five times to make sure that I read it correctly. They play a very fast paced game so this is a really incredible stat.

The two turnovers is amazing! But it didn’t have more to do with the win than shots made. You can have zero turnovers and not make a basket or many baskets and you would lose. They made 31 which is good. You could have 20 turnovers but shoot well and still win as often happens. In the end it really doesn’t matter as long as you win. Generally the team that wins doesn’t have a good game doing everything.

By having only 2 turnovers you are getting many more FG attempts to get more shots made. Noone would argue making more baskets than your opponent is a key ingredient to success, I think everyone agrees with that. Its all about the journey though, how do you make more baskets, efficiency.

ND St had 17 turnovers (15 more than NIU) shot the EXACT same percentage...and didn't win. Since NIU made only four more baskets (excluding the four additional free throws) maybe it's more a function of how many shots you TAKE (more because we turned the ball over much less) than how many you make. Anyways--nice win....and it appear by the box score the bench was emptied fairly early and some bench players got some minutes.

222----no Poisson in the box-----any insight to that?????

I was wondering what’s up with her also. How she’s physically ok. She was instant offense before she got hurt.

Cortney Woods just carried off the court hopefully she’s ok. From her screams heard on the broadcast it didn’t sound good. Bad part is she was just put back in with a 24pt lead with 5 minutes left in game. She’s scored 28pts so I’m sure it was to get to 30. Fingers crossed for her
