NIU women’s b-ball
Women leading 42-41 at halftime at Indiana. This would be a huge win if they can get it. Women’s athletics are even more stacked in favor of the power conferences than men’s athletics.

Looks like NIU ended up losing 91-73. Indiana is undefeated at 5-0. I'm sure the women will still have a successful season.

Great effort! Courtney Woods is having trouble with her shot right now, hopefully she can get going.

Wrong. She’s not “having trouble with her shot”. She’s drawing opposing teams best defender and getting doubled. Her shot is fine. She’s not getting open looks and she’s not getting anything going off the dribble.

Someone needs to show some consistency from the outside AND moreso they lack a consistent post presence that would ease the double on Courtney’s side.

62423dp, Woods is shooting .306%fg and .286 from 3pt. Double teamed sometimes or not her shot is not going in yet. She is much better than those numbers and I’m sure teams will continue to have a good defender on her and I’m sure her shot will start falling! She’s a top 2 or 3 player in the MAC.

THERE NO “TROUBLE WITH HER SHOT”!! It’s pretty simple. She is taking contested shots due to defenses being geared toward her. Her 3 pt percentage is down due to defenders not having to play off her. Is that difficult to comprehend?

She didn’t wake up a week ago and her shot was “wrong”.

That is what I was saying in my previous post. I guess I had to clarify it even more.

Mechanically her shot is the exact same that it has been since she stepped foot on campus. That is my point. It’s not broken, wrong or otherwise. It’s oppsoing teams PLUS the inconsistency of the remaining 4 NIU players on the floor with her. Until that changes teams are going to keep throwing everything they have into a game plan to double or force Woods into uncomfortable shots. Taking away her corner 3’s and her shot from the elbow. 2 places where she is quite comfortable.

Getting to the line and distributing are going to be her best way to combat what teams are doing to her.

Ask Carlsen at her next coffee w Carlsen or radio show to explain what is wrong with her shot. You will get damn close to the same answer.

RE: NIU women’s b-ball
I never said her shot was a mechanical problem. I meant she wasn’t making baskets like she used to. Every shot is not contested either. Her percentage will go up because she’s to good of a shooter for it not to but I’m sure teams will still be guarding her the same.

RE: NIU women’s b-ball
62432dp,

dekalb222 does not understand the difference between contested and non contested shots. He thinks NIU men just need to shoot more 3s and they will win. They need to get more OPEN LOOKS from 3 within their offense and play better perimeter defense so their opponents do not get so many OPEN LOOKS from 3. If they do that they will make the 8 plus a game like he thinks they need to make and have roughly the same amount of 3s as their opponents. To him basketball wins revolve around shooting 3s.
When Geno throws up a three from the right baseline while being closely guarded with about 6 minutes into the game yesterday Monty promptly pulled him. Why? Because it was not in the flow of the offense and the guy was right on top of him contesting the shot. I have confidence that the NIU coaching staff and Courtney will find a way to get her more uncontested shots in the near future.

I have not seen the women play too much, mainly getting there early in the front end of those doubleheader days. What struck me about the NIU women, is just the attitude and approach to the game as cheesey as that sounds. Voigt seems like an exceptional leader and teammate that NIU will miss next season.

Thank you!

Coaching staff is too good and they will find a way to get her looks. Her big issue is that she’s not “fleet of foot” but is able to create separation using head fakes, ball handling, etc. Opposing teams have enough film on her that she MIGHT need to create another option (coaching staff).

The biggest concern goes back to a lack of a scoring post player that she could be in the block same side of the floor as Woods negating any double team or at least off the ball defense on Woods.

Sounds like injury bug is hitting the team again. Hope what I’ve heard is wrong. Won’t mention any names until it’s public knowledge.

Settle down folks, don't take things so personally. You all start sounding like these crazy football fans we have. You can all be right. 222 said she's having trouble with her shot, she could be having trouble with her shot because of defense.

That is true. We'll see what happens this year with the current batch of players on the men's team, maybe they will start to take the same approach.

I get ticked because I’ve developed solid relationships with wbb staff and players over the last 4 years. My daughter is close to the Carlsen family and we have developed a solid friendship with them and knowing the players on a personal level it ticks me off when people start in with speculation. Just like with the football players. THEIR KIDS. Coaches are the adults and are paid for what they do. People can voice their options on them (I know I do). I’ll stick up for players any day of the week for their on field performance. If they act like a jack wagon off the court/field then they deserve what they get.

Probably a good idea to bail on this forum. It shows there is a fracture in the fan base at NIU.

I’ll go back to being a lurker rather than commenting.

RE: NIU women’s b-ball
I don't think anybody on this thread was getting on a player's case. One poster said her shots weren't going in but she's too good for that to keep happening and that it would get straightened out. The other poster said her shots weren't going in because she was being guarded so closely - by the other teams best player or a double team. I didn't read either one to be very critical of a player.

62423dp, I know Wbb coaches also so what! You started with the speculation of a mechanical problem with her shot. I said in every post Courtney is a top player and her shot will start falling because she’s a great player. It’s not going in right know that’s a fact! It’s likely because of other teams defense and sometimes basketball players go through periods where their shots not going in. I would appreciate it if you didn’t try and start something that’s not there. I’m a huge fan of coach Carlsen and as I said before Courtney Woods is a top 2-3 player in the MAC!

Huskiefan87, NIU men’s team has taken the least amount of 3ptrs in the MAC every year for the last 7plus years. It has to become a part of their offense or they will not move up in the MAC. Do I think just by taking more it means they will win more of course not! But you cannot make them if you never take them and you will not get out of the bottom of the MAC without taking and making some 3’s

For the men's team, in recent years it hasn't been worth shooting 3s since there wasn't anybody that could make them at more than a 25% clip. If you have somebody that can make them regularly, sure, more 3s would be good.

007, I agree with you 100%. Right know Geno is 2nd or 3rd best three point shooter in the MAC. I want him taking several a game.
