That's actually a position I expect will play a much larger role out of necessity next season. Got plenty of size and athleticism there.

Somewhere on here, I quipped that next year we would use the OL as sparingly as we did the TEs this year.COGS

Had to be there, I guess.

Why? We have had good QBs. Just need to choose the right ones to play.

Here's a WAY outside the box idea. Cam Chancellor. He would kill it with recruiting in this area. Surround him with experience and see what happens.

My philosophy on coaches getting hired away is that it means you hired a good coach. If coaches aren't getting hired away at our level, you aren't hiring the best coaches.

If he got hired away, it would mean he excelled here. We should aim for all of our coaches to be poach-worthy.

As a position coach, absolutely. Maybe groom to DC. But hes nowhere near capable of running a defense with no experience.

If we have good QBs and BW makes the decisions, then why are we paying Whitcomb $137k?

Based on what I know, we would have been far better off, since the SB/DW fiasco, had we allowed the OC to make the QB decision.,

How much is coaching and how much is getting lucky by finding an overlooked kid whose arm was touched by the gods?

Certainly we were extremely fortunate with Taylor Heinicke.

Remember though that Tom DeMarco was good enough to play in the CFL.

Brian Scott told a group of us not to worry that we would lose very little if anything with David Washington, after TH's final season.

It was Brian Scott who lobbied BW to replace with Steven Williams with Blake LaRussa.

There were many times that I thought backup QBs should get some playing time in either routs or slaughters, or just garbage time; from all the way back to Colin McElroy, to Jordan Hoy, to Drayton Arnold.

On the surface, BW seems singularly stubborn when it comes to QB play, a characteristic that does not appear to show itself at any other offensive position.

That's Easy.
TH involved luck.
DW, BL, and TD did not.

The QB Coach's job is to develop QBs. For the entirety of our program we have had a QB who is good enough to be a solid starter. The QB coach does not pick the starter, so I don't hold him accountable for the fact that the wrong QB has been chosen as the starter on multiple occasions.

We have developed a converted punter, an unranked FCS QB, an FCS recruit, and a walk on into very good QBs. I would say someone is doing the right thing.

I'd say we have got lucky with more than just one QB in our short history.

TD was a punter who went JUCO to help showcase his QB play. ODU coach was looking at punters and olinemen when TD slid them his quarterback tape before his punting tape. Remember Tommy Reamon was Wilder prized QB when starting the team. TD was still competing for the job until the third game of 2009 with two other QBs. TD said on odusports "Sitting in class at the College of the Desert, DeMarco got a call from his coach that someone from Old Dominion was on campus and looking for a punter. "Coach Scott was looking at an offensive lineman we had out there," said DeMarco."
TH 100% luck.
BL luck by way of his fascination with TH and the ODU spread offense. BL believed he could simulate TH to an extent. If it wasn't for TH, BL ends up at ECSU. I know this because I know his QB mentor well.

From early on Scott should have been making the calls who plays QB.
