Well, they're screwed...

On another front, I have a friend that graduated with a well-traveled, fairly well-respected DC. DC was contacted for the position here. He reached out to one of the connected Monarch Faithful to see if they were the one to put his name in the hat.

"Oh, hell no, you don't want to come here". Which may explain the crickets.

BW was quoted saying no hire until at least January.

My wife, who is much smarter than me, said all the coaching jobs were posted somewhere. I'm not sure where she saw them but she said tonight that they were not on there anymore. Does that mean anything????

Rich Nagy made $173,301/yr. That is about mid range in CUSA, but well below the $300,000+ paid to the DCs at FAU and MTSU.
I still like Brad Lambert but he might command more as a HC at an FCS or DII program than we could pay him as a DC.

BW's contract expires at the end of 2021. Personally I don't believe we can afford to under-perform, especially on defense, for three more seasons.
The admin then, would have to determine the ROI of a buyout of BW, and the cost of the new coach, who also likely would require us to pay his buyout, unless already unemployed; and THAT scenario could be the proverbial "out of the frying pan and into the fire".
Additionally, some here have opined that BW has just two seasons, and some only ONE more to "get it right".
As noted, that is a mighty big risk for a prospective assistant to take.

Next season we have as many or even more unknowns than we had in 2009.
On offense; we go into 2019 with new QB, new WRs, and only three experienced O Lineman. Only the RBs are a somewhat known quantity.
On defense; I am overwhelmed even trying to assess that right now.

It is difficult to be optimistic about a new DC given the above circumstances - unless we come up with double the compensation (and that would open a "whole 'nother" can of worms), and a 'wink wink nudge nudge' about an option of promotion to HC.

I just hope we can hire someone with some decent FBS experience or has a resume that includes stints as an Asst. Coach or GA with a G5 or P5 program. Wood is going to have to make some concessions or assurances to pull this off. I just thing we need to temper expectations given our situation.

BW told me that it won't be Lambert and that he is interviewing a lot of coordinator candidates this month. He won't hire position coaches until after the coaches'
convention in San Antonio where he will interview many candidates.

Budgeted salaries for several coaches, less just say for the season just completed:

Nagy $173,301
Buggs $117,300
Malone $86,700
Perryman $58,089

My guess is that there will be a position reassessment for those who remain and duties will be reassigned such that some of the “salary which left” is allocated to several remaining coach’s and the several new hires, but not as many new hires as the number who departed. Duty reassignments as well. This is quite a gamble and puts Wilders bosses on the line as well.
