I heard Swofford gave Raycom a sweetheart deal to televise Clemson baseball games.

Nah, they figured televising Virginia Tech football was more to their level.

Yeah, VT was on Raycom this season all of once - same as Clemson.
They did love them some UNC football, though (6 out of 13 Raycom games)

Then they must love them some choking and losing, huh?

Some of us remember that Raycom having a local deal was a great thing because it meant watching more football.

Some of us remember cabinet console TVs, four TV channels, and rabbit ear antennas. Doesn't make it a good thing in 2018.
There's a reason everyone else that Raycom had (SEC, Big 8, Big 10, SWC) migrated away from them. The only reason they still exist is some false sense of loyalty from Tobacco road to a company that is several corporate buy-outs removed from what Rick Ray built, and despite urban legend is totally independent from the operation C.D. Chesley ran from the mid 50-s to early 80's.

I always thought as a kid it was weird that Big 8 basketball you could watch every game on Saturday, but you couldn't Big 8 football.

Wasn't arguing in their favor, just an observation.

I’m surprised that Raycom never looked into televising C-USA, AAC, and SunBelt games.

TRUE. Or a merger with Sinclair/Stadium/whoever. I know Gray bought them out, but that just seemed like an odd fit...

Critical mass is an issue.
For example. Little Rock television has jumped at the few opportunities they have had to get an Arkansas State game out from the ESPN stranglehold. The same stations didn't want CUSA games even on a subchannel. If they don't want CUSA's La-Tech vs. UTSA, I doubt they wanted Sun Belt's TXST vs. ULM either.
