I understand that OSU will get some recruits just because of their name. However Alabama was not doing as well before Saban. If the coaching change results in one or two more recruits going to UC great.

Coaches matter a ton. Look at Urban's record. He's won at an insane level that OSU hasn't won at in decades. If not for coaching at the same time as Saban he'd be frequently discussed as an all time great. Many legendary coaches don't have 3 national titles and he's still only in his mid 50s. It's quite possible that Day keeps them a top 5 program but it's far from a certainty.

I agree. OSU has always had superior resources but wasn't winning consistently at this level until Urban arrived. Texas, the richest athletic program in America can't seem to buy a national championship. And Nebraska has a vault full of money but has remained pretty average of late.

So I don't think OSU falls very far, but I also don't think it's a given that this will be the seamless transition that some of its fans anticipate.

Does everyone here have short term memories? While I agree Urban was on a different level, and has OSU playing as an elite program matched by only 3 or so other teams... Jim Tressel went 106-22 in 10 years with Ohio State. He ushered in an era of success at OSU that they had not seen since the 60's/70's.

I would argue that Tressel had to play in a much tougher Big 10 than Urban did. OSU has been at the top of the mountain since 2002.

Agree. Tressel got OSU dominating the Midwest both on the field and recruiting. Urban took OSU on a more national stage both on the field and recruiting. Urban ran into trouble with both Saban and Dabo Swinney on this stage but still was at that level.

Luckily for the Bearcats Ryan Day appears to be a national recruiter also but we’ll see. TBH I think most OSU fans liked Tressels early OSU teams more than Urbans as they were filled with Ohio/Midwest kids. Not kids from Cali, Texas, New Jersey, etc.

I don’t think this change matters at all to UC.

Also, Nebraska’s move to the Big Ten killed were they mainly recruited. I think Scott Frost will get them at least solid again. Texas I’ve never understood. Pretty much the best athletic department, most resources, and a top recruiting area out of any school in the country. Then again they battle the state of Texas with TCU, Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston, SMU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and the other OSU. Then you have all the smaller schools like Rice and Northern Texas. And schools like Bama, OSU, USC after the top recruits in the state and it makes sense.

Day doesn't have the Ohio rep to recruit like Tressel. It's not just by chance that he recruited like that. He was/ is an Ohio guy. He had the connections in a way that neither Urban or Day does. Sure, he can lean on the OSU namebrand, however there was more than that happening with Tressel. He was connected and getting Intel on kids due to those connections. He could take an under the radar kid cuz he could trust the evaluation of some Ohio coach he had a pre existing relationship with.

Day won't have that same thing going on. I fully expect him to continue to take the cream of the crop Ohio kids and the best across the nation over any sense of fidelity to Ohio coaches.

Agree. Even maybe more so than Urban IMO.

So Maryland hired Mike Locksley and all the national pundits are saying its such a great hire because he's from the area and is well liked. But a career 3-31 HC record...I didnt think someone could be worse than Hue Jackson. Why is everyone so giddy with the hire?[/u]

I was thinking the same thing. His hiring raised some eyebrows in New Mexico. I would think any of us could look good as an offensive coordinator at Alabama.

Was Lock even at Bama very long?

Looks like only 2 years. I guess that was enough time for Nick to throw some magic dust on his resume aka lane kiffin, and lyle jones.

No way it happens again IMO.

Apologies in advance for throwing this thread back off topic but I'm curious how Northern Kentucky would feel about having the stadium on their side of the river and helping Mikey get it done. I should preface by saying I have no idea what dollars/funding/taxes look like over there, but they were obviously intrigued by the idea of a soccer stadium on their riverfront. Football and the NFL is a bigger generator but also costs more.

I also don't know if the Ovation site has something planned, if that site would be developed by 2026, or if the site would even be big enough.

Just spit-balling because it's crossed my mind more than a few times. (I'm still envious of Lucas Oil Stadium and how Indy puts it to use)

Maryland's job is not to win at football. It is to win non-conference games, not upset Ohio State, Michigan or Penn State, field a decent basketball team, be good at some Olympic sports, and cash big checks.

I thought Healy would have been a solid choice for Miami since they should have fired Martin this year. Looks like they have to suffer through more Martin next season.

We want Martin at Miami long term. Hey they were 6 - 6
In the last 20 years half were losing years.
3 more wins and we lead 60-59

Miami is 2-19 since 2014 in their nonconference games. Their two wins are against Presbyterian and Austin Peay.

Miami still hasn't fired Chuck Martin... or Chuckles, as some have taken to calling him on MHT. Here's their most recent hilarious thread about him: http://test.miamihawktalk.com/talk/discu...-30-for-30

Pete Thamel is reporting that Temple HC Geoff Collins will likely be named the new HC at Georgia Tech tonight.

Source: Temple's Geoff Collins has emerged as the leading candidate at Georgia Tech. No offer has been made yet. But he was in Atlanta on Thursday, met with Tech officials and they've indicated he's the favorite. A deal could happen as soon as tonight.

Temple might be the team I hate most in the AAC lately... they lose OOC games to D III opponents and local high schools, then somehow find a way to beat us in conference play every year. This year it took grossly incompetent officiating, but we still have 4 straight losses to those guys! They are simply a bizarre and infuriating team.

It's worse if you're a fan.
