FWIW, here is a scouting report of Weldon coming out of HS (
found here)
Size-Strength-Mobility
Possesses good height/weight combo at this stage. Has a late bloomers frame -- lean with plenty of room to fill out. Not a physically imposing player yet. Is only going to get bigger. Possesses deceptive and surprisingly mobility and athleticism.
Mental-Makeup
Games show a highly competitive feel for the game. Command, poise and penchant for making throws under duress are sound. Works through progressions and will buy time to locate WRs late. Shows nice presence within the pocket and keeps eyes downfield.
Accuracy
He is accurate all over the field and rarely forces ball despite a ton of confidence in his arm. Can be a bit erratic if he tries to rush or use his arm talent too much. When calm, relaxed and in rhythm he shows sound accuracy to lead receivers and not force adjustments.
Release/Arm Strength
He has a quick, smooth stroke and the ball flips off his hand in a fluid and compact manner. Methods and fundamentals are very consistent and he carries the ball nice and relaxed. He appears to have good, not elite, arm strength, but compensates with zip, quick release and being on time. Similar to Jake Browning in this area. Makes a variety of throws in this scheme.
Bottom Line
Weldon is not an imposing passer yet, but with further frame development he could become a powerful one. The weight room is going to be his best friend. Has a presence and calm swagger about him. Taller than his dad Casey. Good upside given he missed his junior year. Has already gotten bigger.
Underclassman Eval
STRENGTHS: Smart, tough quarterback who demonstrates good composure in the pocket. Capable of moving through his progressions and doesn't put the ball in harm's way. Possesses a natural release and throws a catchable ball on short to intermediate routes. Plays with moxie.
AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Struggles to drive the deep ball down the field. May possess the mobility to buy time at the next level but does not project as much of a running threat. Does not look as big as listed measurables.
BOTTOM LINE: Weldon is a heady pocket-passer with craftiness, accuracy, demeanor and enough athleticism for the Power 5 level.
