Good wins. Hopefully they’re starting to understand how to work together

RE: UC vs. Ole Miss Game thread
After losing top three scorers, Cats coming together well. They may be grinders offensively, but they are tall, athletic, and as expected, can play D. I feel much better about them since the OSU game. A work in progress, but I like the progress.

This was the win that could jump start their season.

Game in Starkville against MSU will be a better test.
Pretty sure the Bulldogs are ranked.
Bulldogs are 15. UCLA are 17. Some good tests ahead in this upcoming stretch. After Arkansas Pine Bluff we're gonna learn an awful lot about this team.
Is UNLV any good? NKU?
UNLV is 4-1 against a schedule that makes ours look like a murderer's row.
NKU is sneaky good...6-1 (they lost to UCF by 13 tonight) against a pretty iffy schedule, but have some players..four guys averaging double figures and three guys over 40% from three. McDonald is a forward averaging 20ppg on a 55/42/80 clip so far on the season...that's the guy weve got to put the brakes on.

If we can shoot 40% from the field, we'll win most of our games. It's about taking good shots. Cumberland seems in a funk from the field, but his % right now is better than his first 2. When he doesn't settle for bombs, he's awful tough to handle. Good trip.

Have no idea about UNLV but NKU should've been a tournament team last year and returns quite a bit. They'll give us a decent game.

It looks like Cumberland settles for long jump shots when he gets tired.

He makes em sometimes, but honestly they are out of the flow of the offense and are poor shots imho. Should just probe the defense more and pass those up.

I believe he has a minor help injury as well. They were working on his hip on the bench a bit last night and he was holding his hip tonight at times. May be part of why he is settling too much.

Calf strain. Decent chance he sits out Tuesday to get it back to normal...

Hopefully they can develop the bench so the starters are not worn out by the end of the year.

RE: UC vs. Ole Miss Game thread
FWIW, my thoughts watching the last 2 games.
Tre Scott is the glue on this team, in the right place with good plays. He isn't a Gary Clark (yet), but he seems to have learned the right things from Gary.
If Brooks can develop some offense, he will be wonderful for us.
If Cumberland has to always be THE guy on offense, instead of one of the guys, this could be a long season.
Williams looks like a different guy than we saw most of last season.
Logan Johnson has great upside. I think the game still has not "slowed down" for him to use his talents consistently yet, and other players are still giving him "hints" of where he needs to be defensively. I am looking forward to when all that gels.
I don't think that JJ is the liability that some posters rant about. However, it would be nice to see him penetrate more. One of the issues with that, are there any 3 point shooters to feed after the penetration?

So far we seem to be a three by comittee team, which I actually like. Last year the team would go stretches where they would just all be shooting bombs and it could lead to long scoreless stretches where nothing was dropping. This year, the focus is on penetration, get to the basket or dish it to the open man. Most of our guys can make threes at a reasonable rate when they are open, but only Cumberland shoots defended threes (which he does too much, especially last night). We aren't going to have anyone (besides Cumberland) making more than a few threes per game, but we also aren't going to have anyone (besides Cumberland) taking more then 4 or 5 threes per game and those threes will be open shots.

They played a great game last night.
For those asking about UNLV, they are basically a poor man's version on the Bearcats - huge inside so they are a very good interior D and rebounding team, but will struggle with shooting and TOs. Also a little more pacey offensively since their HC offense can be so wonky. That game should be a rock fight.

hear! hear!
Jenifer does make plays though. He's had some very nice assists and finishes. Even if, the offense seems less fluid, the reality is we need all the points we can get. Defensively, his size is limiting and the same can be said for Broome.
