'Preesh. This is what I was looking for.

What do the rest of you think?
Not really sure I want to put it down in writing because it is so bush league. Top 25 once in a decade? What aspirations. And those expectations are probably unreasonable.

You were pleased with the product we put on the field this year? Seriously?

I think you can be unhappy with how this season turned out — I sincerely doubt you'll find too many people that are even neutral to it — while at the same time appreciative of how the program has performed in the 10 years since it was created from whole cloth. Nobody wants to be 4-8 with losses to Rice, Charlotte and Liberty, but I'd still take ODU at the stage of their development over similar schools (Charlotte, UTSA, Georgia State, etc.)

Why is that bush league? ODU basketball has only been in the top 25 for one week of its existence. And football is a tougher nut to crack because the power schools are more entrenched in the poll than basketball, where you'll have a hot school like Nevada or Davidson start ranked or quickly make their way there. Whereas in football, a G5 has to have a long-term reputation (Boise State), be coming off a monster season (UCF) or pull a massive early upset to get in the poll in the first half of the year.

RE: FOOTBALL: What is 'acceptable'?
Short term:
It's acceptable to me to watch ODU outgrow it's foundation and endure some growing pains.

It's acceptable to me to have live football 15 mins from my house, along with a wife and kids who are interested in seeing it.

It's acceptable to me to see VT fall with 22,00 fans, and see ODU erase a 28-pt deficit with 1400 of my closest friends (for that night anyway).

Long term, see my OP, let's call it a 10-year moving average. But IMO the clock doesn't start on any of that until the next HC.

Perfect interpretation of my point of view and many other fans. We couldn’t have asked for a better ten year history - it’s been a heck of a ride. But the current situation certainly needs to improve and I believe it eventually will (or more heads will roll).

I'm in this boat, too.

RE: FOOTBALL: What is 'acceptable'?
I found nothing about this past season "acceptable,"except maybe Nick Rice.

I'm with Cal on LaRussa. Nice kid, apparently, but not a winner. I think the only reason we don't have an entirely new staff is you can't fire everyone. I would have hoped they had people in mind before Sunday's blood-letting, you know, up-and-comers. My bet is we'll get retreads. Ugh.

RE: FOOTBALL: What is 'acceptable'?
I have no idea why LaRussa would be called "not a winner."

Blake had a very good year, much better than anyone would have imagined (except AimHigh). He was firmly the 4th best QB in the conference this past year (Fine, Morgan, Stockstill). He played well enough to win against VT, ECU, FAU, Marshall, Western Kentucky, North Texas, and VMI. The only 2 poor games he played were Rice and MTSU (though he through for 74% passing and 333 yards; the 3 interceptions killed the team).

If you don't think he's a good enough starting caliber QB, Im not sure we ever going to have an acceptable QB.

Even I am shocked BL perform to the level he did this season. It wasn't great but it was good enough for CUSA play. He is the only quarterback not named TH to pass for over 3000 yards at ODU. A lot of credit to Fulgham and DuHart but LaRussa deserves credit getting them two guys 1000 yard season. If that change at QB doesn't happen this season them guys probably don't catch 2000 yards together and Fulgham probably wouldn't have a chance at an NFL career without LaRussa at QB. The coaches are still not using LaRussa to his abilities that could improve on his overall playing better. He needs more TE passes in the middle, a running back as a check down, more rollout passes etc. to be at the top of his game.

I expect the QB position to be up in the air again this spring. I don't see coaches keeping with BL and calling plays that will help his style of play. They seem to like the RPO to much to switch back to a spread offense with BL. BL isn't a dual threat qb so the RPO sucks for him.

Agreed.

Totally unfair to say he is not a winner. Nothing he has done has shown that he is just "not a winner". If you were to say he is just not good enough to be the starting qb for a good G5 team, I would disagree with you, but there could be a debate.

RE: FOOTBALL: What is 'acceptable'?
Blake has trouble throwing in the middle of the field due to his height. That is always going to be an issue.

I think they will open it up to the QBs on the roster (I expect SW, Wolffe, and Fitz to be in running), but they would have to overwhelmingly outplay him to supplant him.

The RPO is a stable in the offense and a lot of our plays are instilled to counter how defenses try to defend them. I don't expect them to go away. They tweaked it when BL became the full time starter.

Conspiracy Theory:

The "Say Something Nice" threads stopped after the 2016 season- our best season in FBS.

Coincidence?

Better start them up next fall!

With BL starting to begin the season, we likely win 2 more games.
