David Beaty is suing Kansas for unpaid wages (they owe him $3 million). Pretty ugly story. It claims the Kansas AD (Jeff Long - used to work at Rice back in 1988 but I don't think he stayed more than a few months?) publicly said they'd pay him the $3 million they owe from the remainder of his contract, but privately behind the scenes was looking for a way to get out of the contract - like trying to find a 'dead hooker in his closet' or something along those lines. Rick Greenspan is saying thank you Jeff Long for making me look good.

Prediction: Beaty will get his money by the end of the week, once the yahoos at Kansas Adidas U. realize the last thing they want right now is to be in a live lawsuit with real discovery.

I'm not sure. Let's be honest, these yahoos are the morons who hired him (which was an obvious mistake, see my joyful posts from his departure from here) and the morons who gave him an unnecessary unprecedented success type extension.

Given their inability to see reality, why are you confident they see it in this case? Extreme stupidity is endemic in college athletics. Common sense is really rare.

Oh, I don't disagree with you about the dunderheadedness of athletic administrators, but once lawyers get involved -- especially outside litigation counsel (it's probably only been the university's general counsel involved to this point), and *especially* the specialty NCAA enforcement counsel that KU no doubt has -- to handle this mess of said administrators' making, said administrators will be told in no uncertain terms to fold and pay Beaty his money. KU knows that it has major skeletons in its closet, namely, basketball players getting paid with Adidas money. The NCAA is limited in its ability to compel information; adversarial lawyers in a court case have much greater power. So they need to make the court case go away.
