OSU Buckeyes thump scUM
A scoring clinic, but most of the scoring was done by OSU.

Hard to still call it a "rivalry" when OSU has won 15 of last 16.

OSU and/or MSU and ND annually provide the pins to pop the "Michigan Myth."

Then Ann Arbor and the Michigan Hype-Machine pump air in it again for the next season.

Somehow, otherwise intelligent people buy into it.

The Michigan "fans" who think it's their birthright to beat Buckeyes and win national championships because of what happened under Yost and Crisler in first half of 20th century crack me up.

Since Woody Hayes was hired by OSU, with exception of John Cooper years, Ohio State has had the edge over the Whinerines head-to-head and in championships won.

The Great Bo Schembechler never even sniffed a NC and had a bad bowl record to boot.

There were a couple of seasons where Bo sniffed a NC (back then it was just a #1 ranking) -- but yeah, only got #2 once, and got #3 once in both polls (when #1 most the season until Rose Bowl loss), and #3 in one of them another year (#5 in another)... and got #4 a couple times, and most the time in the single-digit ranking, with only 1 sour season @ 6-6 over 20 years. His bowl record only 5-12 wasn't all too great.

Despite being really good coach thru the 70s & 80s, and UM being really good before that, UM fans do need to understand they are NOT destined to be National Champs or Playoff-Bound any more than upper-tier P5 team in the country. Some folks need to ditch nostalgia. It doesn't make mediocre songs Actually better, it doesn't make mediocre movies Actually better -- and it doesn't make UM Actually better.

I grew-up in Ann Arbor on football Saturdays in the 1970s.

While Michigan football had a fine record during the "Great Bo Schembechler" years, there is a reason the Pig10 was called the "Big 2 and Little 8." Michigan and OSU feasted on soft schedules, than got azz-whooped in bowl games.

That said, Michigan had a handful of nice non-conference wins at home. I was there for the wins over Stanford, and Texas A&M (the George Woodard game), but there were not many big non-conference wins.

Schembechler knew what he was doing when he took the Michigan job in 1969. Expectations were low in a weak conference. All he had to do was beat OSU periodically to keep people happy. And that is what he did and he's now a legend.

Note, too, that when Michigan played Miami (OH) after Schembechler retired, he wore his MIAMI hat in Michigan Stadium. Pizzed-off Michigan fans, but Bo made it clear - as as proud as he was of Michigan - he was a Miami grad, a Miami player and and Miami Man first.

That's hilarious and makes his pronouncement about "A Michigan man will coach Michigan!" when he fired Bill Frieder (who actually was a U-M alum)-hired Steve Fisher as men's basketball coach in '89 all the more laughable.

Bo had also been HFC at Miami for six years before going to Michigan, which made him an enemy to all Broncos.
