WAC basketball week 3
So far this week...

Utah Valley beat Hartford (72-65) and Long Beach State (87-72).

NMSU beat Eastern New Mexico (92-65) The added bonus... the return of Johnny McCants.

Utah Valley and NMSU have had a good week.

The rest of the WAC has struggled.

Chicago State has lost to East Tennessee State (61-86) and Jackson State (68-81).

UT Rio Grande Valley has lost to East Carolina (65-69) and Georgia Tech (44-72).

Cal Baptist lost to Nevada (55-90).

UM Kansas City lost to Drake (63-66).

And, Grand Canyon lost to Seton Hall (75-82). I happened to watch this game and the Lopes had the Pirates on the ropes but could not close the deal. GCU still hasn't learned how to win the close games.

Today Cal Baptist plays Arkansas Pine Bluff, UT Rio Grande Valley plays Lamar (SLC), Seattle plays Denver (Summit), and Grand Canyon plays Utah (PAC 12). The WAC needs some quality wins.

RE: WAC basketball week 3
I thought the UVU win over Long Beach State and the NMSU win over UNM were impressive wins. Seattle's loss to Southern Utah was shocking.

GCU needs a breakthrough win and they will get plenty of chances in the coming weeks, starting today with Utah. They get Boise State, Nevada, Texas and Northern Iowa in the next few weeks. The other losses were expected. Nevada is 6th ranked in the country, that is a bad matchup for CBU.

I would agree that the WAC needs to have a good day today. CBU, UTRGV and Seattle need wins today. Hopefully, GCU can find a way to beat Utah.

That was last week (week 2).

Yeah, I know, I had wanted to say something about it like “good win,” but I just got busy and I didn’t get a chance to post a comment. So I took this opportunity to post a comment on a “good win.”

Snobby yes, but they got the hell out for the right reasons at the time.

CBU lost to Arkansas Pine Bluff 115-107 in triple overtime in Little Rock. Tough loss, but this is what I expected from them. They would compete the first year, but lose a lot of close games. They play Arkansas Little Rock tomorrow.

I watched the GCU-Utah game. The Lopes can't seem to score consistently on the fly without running set plays. On two consecutive night an opponent's guard basically dismantled GCU's defense by scoring through improvisation; running an "unscripted" offense. Now being a Junior, I thought Oscar Frayer would give the Lopes a good one-on-one player this season. However, Majerle got virtually nothing from Oscar Frayer the last two games despite being the best athlete on the court.

By my count, I believe that is at least the 4th guard that has gone for 25+ against the Lopes, and there are no signs of that stopping any time soon. If they don't get it figured out in the next month, look for conference guards like Harris to go for big, big nights when they play GCU.

Did Majerle decide to redshirt JJ Rhymes?

Yup. Said he was still "adjusting" to university life. Translation = Grades? Same kid that failed to qualify out of high school, so it wouldn't be shocking if he needed some additional support and time to get things on track in the classroom.

A win is a win, but beating Longwood isn’t anything to brag about

Y'all beat a 5-2 team so that is good. Hoping the rest of the WAC wins tonight.

Seattle U cruises through the Elgin Baylor Classic, going 3-0 in three days vs Denver, Longwood, and Fairfield. Two blowouts and one semi-close game while the team comes out healthy. I'll take that any week.

Really nice to see this team have different leading scorers pretty much every game. Either it's Means, Carter, Kavas, Jones, walk-on (!!!!) Terrell Brown, this team is LOADED with depth. Hayford continues to play a deep lineup, once again going with a full 15 guys seeing minutes tonight.

Seattle U is legit and while I always have thought 2019-20 was the special year, so far it looks like the Redhawks are ready to compete for that WAC title now. Watch out Aggies and Lopes!!

Not to mention that Fairfield team had lost all of their games by within 6 points coming into the SU game (not counting road game at ranked Purdue)

If SU is going to beat NMSU wait until the WAC championship so we get a 2 bid WAC.
