Grateful
Many, many things to be grateful for today, but since the Pound is dedicated to NIU sports, here goes: I'm grateful for the football team's consistent excellence, starting with the Novak era to the present, and for being the class of the MAC these last nine years; I'm grateful for the young men who, win or lose, leave it all on the field every week during the season; I'm grateful for the other couple who share season tickets with me and my wife, and for the great fans who sit around us and never miss a game (even in crappy November weather!); I'm grateful for the information, insights, laughs and aggravation I get from this board on a daily basis; and I'm grateful for my degree from NIU which helped get me to where I am today. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Go Huskies!

Great post. This board, even though is can be infuriating, I am grateful for. It is a blessing to have others that are as passionate as I am for NIU athletics.

Agreed. Even though many on this site spend more time taking shots at each other than agreeing on, well, anything, we all have one thing in common. We love DeKalb.

It's a tough town to love. For an outsider, they see all the warts and flaws. Why would anyone want to go to school here, let alone live here?

But maybe they've never had a gyro at Lukolos. Walked from their dorm in a snow storm to a boring class at Cole Hall. Ran the rail at Molly's. Drank .40 cent drafts at on a Tuesday night at Fat Boys. Went in for reverse cover night at Amnesia where they gave you a dollar to come in. Ate beer nuggets at any number of places. Whacked a golf ball into the mighty Kish. Went to Lincoln Inn for breakfast. Participated in Tugs. Played softball at Katz Park. Did the crossword puzzle from the Northern Star in their most boring class. Hung out in the beer garden at Corn Fest. Toured the Elwood house. Listened to WLBK.

DeKalb is an imperfect town, but it is our imperfect town. I, for one, will always harbor fond memories of my time as a Huskie and a DeKalbian.

RE: Grateful
Nice post HW58, I have always been thankful for my NIU education. It enriched my life, prepared me for a lifetime of learning and became the basis for my career. I am now enjoying retirement and that too was made possible by my solid start at NIU.
