Moore and Mullins have brought their A game. Beating BYU's guards at will.

Overall playing well. Our 3’s haven’t fallen the last few times whereas BYU has hit theirs. Child’s inside is a tough handle for Brown.

You could tell me Haws was 30 years old and I wouldn't even question it.

Terrible defense this half. Worst game I’ve watched this year on that side of the ball.

Pera has just gotta scrap that zone once and for all. Either he can't coach it or our guys can't learn it, but it gets shredded every game.

1:01 left in 1H. Looked promising early, then BYU seems to have figured us out. Halftime adjustments need to step it up, Owlz!

Pretty even mixture of good shotmaking by BYU, Childs bullying our interior, and bad breakdowns. All in all with what we just saw from our defense, good to only be down 11.

Halftime.

RICE 17-31 (54.8%)
Field Goals
BYU 21-36 (58.3%)

Ako Adams leads the Owls with 15pts.
for BYU: Childs 15, Hardnett 13, Haws 12.

Can't let them have that many options. Defense looking pourous.

Down by 11 at the break. Adams with 15 points - his shooting this year has been pretty impressive.

This is going to be a tough game to stay within 20. And Wichita State and then even Texas State after that aren't easy games (although they do get a bit easier with each game). I'd be happy with a 1-2 road trip to be honest. But the goal at this point is for sure to have a winning non-conference record heading into conference play.

Surprisingly, Rice leads BYU 17-15 in total rebounds for the game so far, but Martin with only 1 board for the game.

BYU is picked to finish 3rd behind Gonzaga and ST Marys though they did get 1 vote for 1st. Their shooting guards are 9-9. Overall I am pleased, BYU is an experienced team, we are on the road, and yet there isn’t any panic or fear in this bunch. Remember the first year with Evans we were destroyed by USF and Cal looking like we didn’t belong in the same building.

Defense is non-existance-- both on the outside and the inside, and the number of uncontested drives to the basket was just embarrassing. You're looking at two polar opposite teams-- one has quick and constant ball movement on offense; the other simply dribbles on the parameter with almost zero ball movement or player movement on offense. It's amazing this game is not a blowout at this point. Fortunately, BYU missed a bunch of wide open 3s early, and outside of Williams (who has been throwing up bricks), we have been shooting well-- particularly Martin early and Adams throughout the half.

Anyone want to give this team a chance to grow? Good grief.
