At the beginning of this season
If anyone predicted 7-5, one win in non-conference and being the West Champion, we would have been ecstatic.

Now this happened and everyone is losing their mind.

Tough crowd.

RE: At the beginning of this season
I for one am not losing my mind, it was lost hundreds of miles ago. It's not our record that bothers me, its how we showed up for our last two games. I know both MO/WMU are both good teams on the rise, but our Huskies did not look prepared. NIU has the team to beat both, but did not even show up.....period. I hope we win the MACC, shut us all up for once. I am not excited to take this team bowling, unless we pull all the stops and fake punt, onside every kickoff, and go for it on 4th down more. I can't watch this BS O much longer, but I'll watch, cause I'm a Huskie.

Agreed, except based on their last 3 games WMU was not on the rise. I will watch and cheer the Huskies on no matter what; and I can't post here what I think of those that want our Huskies to lose.

I think the team did show up. The talent gap has shrunk. NIU cannot just run it down other MAC teams anymore. We have been exposed.

With that QB at WMU they're on the rise. Wish we had him. NIU has no QB, I want Graham put back in.... I can get behind him and I am behind him for his senior year.

We were predicted to win the MAC West. So all we did was do what we were already predicted to do but we did it in a very average way. Who was the last 7-5 team to win the MAC West? I think it was us back in 2005.

Didn't WMU have a different true (or maybe he was a very green redshirt freshman) freshman QB outperform Childers last year too when we played them? I remember the only reason we beat them last year was because Jordan Huff.

The talent gap has disappeared completely. WMU has better WRs, better running backs, and a better QB- actually 2 better QBs when you include e the injured one.

Not a tough crowd at all---problem is that is not "at the beginning of the season". Obviously, we have no idea who we will play in the bowl game, but as of this date there is a decent chance we end the season on a four game losing streak.

Here's the problem--with this defense--7-5 is not something to be ecstatic at. With this defense, as every game is played individually, there is not a single reason to lose any MAC games. That's 8 wins to start---from there, 1-3 against the non conference slate would be pretty darn good. I know you have to play the games but we are better than, and should have beaten Miami and WM. Expectations need to be higher here--especially in this conference.

Problem is that the offense has shown zero to very little progress and here we sit----with 7-7 staring us in the face.

WMU had 152 points scored on them in the last three games. Without Sutton flipping the scoring when they were in the red zone, we scored 14. That one play could have been a 14 pt swing. Close to losing by 21.

And we were fortunate the WMU guy fumbled the ball plus all the drops by their WRs.

Fake punt on our own 10 and throw the ball no where near the intended receiver, of course. A Carey special.

Agree with almost all of what you said. Cannot agree with the "with this defense" notion. Outside of Sutton Smith, the defense has been pretty porous the last two games. IF our defense was as good as some suggest, we should have more three and outs. Both Miami and WMU consistently moved the ball and also picked up first downs in third and long situations. That inconsistency is glossed over when Sutton Smith makes a big play. WMU was driving and on the verge of taking a 14-point lead when a fumble was run back for a tie. Instead of WMU feeling discouraged, they had the hunger -- or as the announcers termed it the 'eye of the tiger' -- that NIU lacked. While I have trouble accepting that Carey and his staff couldn't get the team fired up to play Miami because circumstances had us clinching the West title the day before, what if any effort was made to motivate them for WMU? So many on here make fun of the "boat-rowers", well they paddled our butts and if the Huskies continue playing with the same attitude, give the MAC title to Buffalo and tack on the annual Carey bowl-game loss. All of which means a 7-7 finish with a four-game losing streak; that's disappointing both offensively and defensively.

I really believe the defense cannot be looked at in a vacuum. The stubbornness to completely surrender one side of the ball finally took cumulative effect on the defense by the end of the year. They carried the team for 10 games, I expected it to hold up for 4 or 5 games. Its impossible to separate the offense and defense when evaluating the defense

Yeah, there are levels. I think it's tough because the offense was showing slight progression...until the last 2 games, and then it all just came crumbling down. So yeah, most people will be looking back in the future and saying 'not bad', but to watch those last 2 games was just...rough, even for the optimistic.

I never saw any progression by the offense. We were just playing weaker defenses.

That's fine that you didn't, many of us did. No reason to hear your rant for the 80th time. Childer's got more comfortable as the season went along until about 6-7 quarters ago. His progressions were getting quicker and more confident.

Of course it's going to look better when you're not playing Iowa or Utah. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Without a doubt Childers was progressing. He was not hesitating and he was trusting his reads/wrs to be at a spot. Then The pick 6 vs Miami happened and he regressed. That crushed his confidence and he will not throw unless he sees the receiver wide open. It’s why I question his mental toughness. Bad plays stay in his head.
