RE: Anybody but Childers
This is scary. He didn't just digress, his bottom dropped out. I know the WR suck, but this is pretty pathetic. And this was basically 9 games in 2017 vs. 12 in 2018.
SEASON CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT RAW QBR ADJ QBR
2018 177 314 1540 56.4 4.90 66 10 7 27 103.6 39.3 40.2
2017 152 265 1674 57.4 6.32 73 16 5 18 126.6 45.7 41.1
And 1 game over 200 yards passing this year. 2 games 160+.
2017, 5 games over 200 yards, again in basically 9 games.

Yes, Thompson has been the 2. Not sure where Graham is at or healthy. Honestly, I’d love to see Graham in the MACC. I’d go to Detroit for sure. Childers no chance. You can now pencil in 120 yards. 1 TD and 2 ints. And 10+ bad decisions for Marcus. He has lost this entire offense for sure.
Agreed, Graham has done a great job in relief over the years. How much worse can he be than what we've seen the last two games. Graham is a pretty good runner too. At least give him a couple of series' to switch it up.
Our receivers are not good and none of our pass-catching tight ends are playing right now but you have to try something. Especially since teams seem to have figured out how to stuff our run game.

Outside of a consistently hurt Chad Beebe, isn’t the receiving corps the same? Childers just flat out regressed. His pick 6 vs Utah was all I needed to see from him this year to know he’s not the right QB for this team. Zero confidence he can actually throw the ball to come from behind and win a game against a decent opponent.

Are the receivers that bad though? I just don’t think Childers can make any reads. Mind you I get that they drop passes, but they all can’t be covered 24/7 can they?

Our receivers run poor routes, never make plays to help their QB and drop a lot of easy balls. As a group they are very poor.
Also, you forget we had Christian Blake last year who was very good. His numbers were kept down by not having a QB who could get him the ball. We also had Shane Wimann last year.

That is a big part of it. And between the crappy sell of the pass/tuck on a designed run to scrambling too early to not feeling pressure after 4 seconds you can say he "does it all." I don't know how he sees the field. Didn't NIU have the helmet cam a few years ago to analyze what the QB sees? Do they still use it?
Unfortunately it doesn't project what he sees and thinks in his mind. Maybe he needs an eye test instead.

The WRs certainly aren’t great. But did you see how covered eskridge was and Eleby dropped into his arms? Qbs have to throw WRs open. They’re not always going to be standing all by themselves. Childers never throws his wr open. Those passes Eleby made are one of the main differences in the game.

Idk, Blake played with Hare and Maddie his first 3 Years and had 42 catches. He had 41 catches last season. He improved greatly last year. But damn we miss Wimann for sure.

In the end, a very good defense in the MAC (aka crappy conf) can lessen the shortcomings at QB. And at times even make them look better than they are when they make stands, let you play from ahead and even score.

There's no reason to be passive aggressive here. If Carey ends the year on a 4 game losing streak, he's going to get killed for it and rightfully so.
If they find a way to win in Detroit, we'll all be happy and these last two games will indeed have been meaningless.
They're struck with Childers next week, but they have to get a Juco QB or a grad transfer for next year. He's awful.

I must have missed the memo. I thought every game is important. While some games have more significance than others all games are important.

Carey isn't going to get killed for it by fans any more than he already has. We can see it coming. His job is safe with the contract extension so we're stuck with no QB and thus a crappy offense for the foreseeable future. If they win the MACC and then get blown out again in a bowl game most of us aren't going to be happy

No part of me wanted to back into the MAC Championship game, but if they end up winning next Friday those two games were completely and totally meaningless.
That’s a big if.

So we can win against a mediocre MAC East team and then get blown out by a Sunbelt team and that game won't matter? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Slow delivery combined with staring guys down, not a good combo. IMO, players and QB are coached well, just not talented.

Why is there not a discussion about replacing Carey, I mean I think most of us agree he is the root cause. It seems like it all comes down tp the fact that STF is too damn stubborn to admit coaching changes are needed because it will reveal a sign of weakness to his perspective future employers. For once, I wish those in positions of leadership would think about the university first and their own selfish agendas second.
