Who honestly thought that UCF would be in the playoff?

I think people were making the wrong arguments comparing UCF to Ohio State and Oklahoma. THey should have compared UCF to Notre Dame.

Records: Both 12-0

Conference Champions: UCF - Yes; Notre Dame - No

Common Opponents:
Pitt: ND 19-14; UCF 45-14
Navy: ND 44-22; UCF 35-22

As soon as one of those leagues miss out, the stake holders lose their minds. Then we are redoing the process again. Also taking as much subjectivity out of selections is better for all that are involved. I really don't like Ana-Conda-Lisa-Rice picking my teams for me.

I'm looking at if from a best team perspective. If you want a true champion then make the same rules apply to everyone. If some crappy division champ steals a conference title (say Pitt beats Clemson this week), why should they go over a better conference champ from another conference? The committee currently claims to work from the proposition that it is about best teams and not conferences.... no need to give preferential treatment to any conferences. It will work out the same most years, but I think have the best 6 conference champs regardless of conference would be a huge feature for a true playoff.

Which is why 16 teams, 10 autobids and six at-larges. Equal rep on the committee. A combination or merit and equality based model in terms of revenue. Every other major does something close to this.

I love college football and I think I speak for the overwhelming majority of fans when I say I have no--ZERO--interest in seeing some 3 loss sunbelt team nailed upon a cross in Tuscaloosa or Columbus. Now, I also think I speak for the majority of fans when I say I have a great desire to see an AAC or MWC champ that has a fighting chance take that shot. Baby steps, and screw what people think is fair and equitable and everyone gets to participate, start out with something that people might actually tune in to see. Now, if that G5 auto bid starts winning, you'd have a firm basis to argue for other G5 champs to be included, but we're not there yet.

RE: What happens if an unbeaten UCF is excluded again?
The best chance for expanding to 8 is the make it worthwhile to several P5 conferences. When a conference has been excluded multiple times they may be amenable to expanding to 8.

1. Each P5 conference get it's Champion invited.
2. The highest rated G5 gets invited.
3. The 2 highest rated P5 conference runner ups. Thus no conference would have more than 2 teams invited.

Continue to use existing Bowls for games.

Another idea would be 6 teams:
1. Each P5 Champ
2. Highest rated G5

Top 2 rated get a bye.

In those scenarios, where would Notre Dame have been; out in the cold? I'm no fan of Notre Dame but it seems some decision must be made. I wouldn't want them grabbing the only G5 slot any given year.

I know. But rankings are subjective. Results are not.

Wait - this argument barely makes any sense. OF COURSE ND has wins over three (currently ranked) teams, because that makes the committee seem less subjective. But that SAME committee put this team in the rankings:
#22 (8-5) Northwestern. See other posts about their strong losses to powerhouse Akron, etc.

But left out this team from the current rankings:
SHOULD BE RANKED (10-2) Cincinnati Bearcats - why else would a #19 ranked team COMPLETELY drop from the rankings after losing to the#9 team, but when other similar circumstances (or even worse) happen, such as Boise losing AT HOME to Fresno, they are still ranked the next week? It is all to shame the American and UCF. It's all about $$$$ and that looming contract negotiation in February.

UCF had a weak schedule. If their 2018 schedule looked like our 2019 schedule they’d have an argument.

CFB needs to put an objective system into place to quantify performance (one that doesn't reference any poll rankings) to take the committee out of play.

Eight team playoffs. Take the conference champions for the top 4 conferences according to said objective ranking system. The remainder will be at large according to the ranking system.

Publish rankings of teams throughout the season so there is no surprise or question as to why.

DISCLAIMER: It's objective. That's why it won't work.

No offense but I'm tired of hearing this as an excuse to either exclude us from this current sham CFP or not expand at all.

Let's recap: FAU was supposed to be this super up and coming Top 25 team that several people actually voted pre season Top 25. They crapped the bed.

Pitt actually played for the frigging ACC title game and UCF absolutely destroyed them. It was 45-7 with a minute left before a garbage TD. That game could have been 65-7.

UNC, a "POWER 5!!!!!!!!" team, was utterly garbage and cancelled anyways. STILL, the idiots on ESPN act like this was a huge problem for UCF since - "POWER 5!!!!!!".

It should be mentioned that when UCF scheduled UNC, they were a Top 25 team and looked extremely promising under Fedora. Shocking to find out that UCF does not have a crystal ball into the future.

As for AAC play, it was a bit down this year but we still beat a great 10-2 ranked Cincy team. Took 2 of the best shots Memphis could possibly give and won (4 times in 2 years is HARD). Whipped USF. Beat a Temple team that really came on strong and whipped Maryland. Beat the crap out of a decent SMU team.

That's the issue. We played and beat a very good Cincy team yet these ESPN idiots act like it's irrelevant. They would have given more credit to UCF if we had cancelled our game and instead beaten Vandy or someone. It's ridiculous.

Sorry Knight Time, but you are sitting at the kids table next to my Bearcats. Just like you know that the Gators and Seminoles will never allow you a seat at their table, we suffer the same under the thumb of that overrated school in Columbus.

Cartels are not just for drug kingpins anymore!

A bit of advice...since your program is strong.

Consider going independent and playing the big boys in their house on a regular basis. Take on ND and OSU and Auburn or Alabama. Beat them in their house and you'll get in.

It's the same conundrum with UC FB.

The conference will never be pulled in as a group, and watering down the regular season with the conference schedule actually hurts teams with legit claims to being a high-level program.

If you freestyle, then you can play any big dog who will take you.

That approach will get you out of the AAC trap.

Your schedule is a joke and your lowlife defense intentionally tried to hurt our QB with three disgusting head shots. Cry me a river.

Milton getting hurt is almost Karma from UCF trying to hurt UC players. Dirtiest team since Miami FL years back.

Was listening to a national sports talk show and they said UCF not even getting close to the playoffs will start to hurt recruiting. They said quote; "If winning 25 straight games won't get you in the playoffs recruits will look at that and say I need to go to a P5 school."

I was openly rooting for UCF to get into the playoffs.

If we win out next year, with that brutal schedule, there is no way we don't make the playoffs. The following year, 2020, however...

Austin Peay
Western Michigan
at Miami (Ohio)
at Nebraska

Nebraska might be anywhere between mediocre and great, but the rest of the OOC schedule is quite lacking. The fact that the Austin Peay game was just announced less than 2 months ago is discomforting. What happened? Is there really no one else available and no time left to wait for one to open up? A quick glance at fbschedules.com shows that Syracuse isn't playing anyone the week of the Austin Peay game, and still has 2 open OOC slots for 2020... I'm sure there are others as well. I guess the fact is that few P5 schools want to play us...

Do they really think that UCF kids went there thinking playoffs were a possibility? Lets be honest 75% of the playoff participants have been Bama, Clemson, OU, and OSU so unless you're going to one of those schools you've got a very slim chance anyway. Are Northwestern and Indiana really selling kids that they could go to the playoffs?
