That CUSA is going to end up with 8 bowl eligible teams (if USM knocks off UTEP and FAU beats Charlotte). We don’t have that many tie-ins. Who do you think, if anyone, gets the royal rogering and stays home?

The 7+ win teams will get placed first by CUSA. So the 6 win teams will be in danger.

i thinkn it would depend upon the location of the bowl...whatever bowl is closest to those teams will bring more fans, thus they get the nod...i think the lane train hype may have left the building for most folks

Yeah. I agree. I think FAU has lost a little of its luster of a year ago. USM is more widely known. However, it might be a moot point because I read that we have two secondary agreements (Independence and someone else). Hopefully no one stays home.

Im sure they would pick FAU over USM.

There are more Florida bowls this year in our rotation which would favor FAU but at the end of the day, ESPN will pick whatever matchup they want. Remember, MT ended up in the Camellia Bowl while a MAC team sat at home last year even when the MAC had a tie in there. There was some trading but the MAC ended up being screwed purely on geography.

If you go 6-6 or 6-5 as a small school, you can't complain if you are left out of a bowl

UTSA got left out last year as a 6-5 iirc.

Agreed. In the earlier years, Tech was left out with a better record than we have now.

There are just so many D1 teams and bowls now... It's going to be either location or P5. Either way it's about the money. Insert the "throw dat cash" emoji (PS - I call patent on that)!

6-6 and 6-5 is not a guarantee to bowl, only the conference allotment is.

After looking at the bowl eligible teams from both the BIG10 and Big 12, I believe you are right. As of now the Big 12 only has 5 eligible teams, and only one more is likely to qualify. The BIG10 is in a similar situation. They only have 7 eligible teams, and will likely finish with only 1 more.

Neither conference are going to fill their bowl obligations. So, I see no reason why both USM and FAU shouldn't be invited to a bowl. This also means the First Responders Bowl in Dallas will once again not feature a P5 opponent for C-USA.

Southern Miss also has the advantage that we currently have more West bowls than teams. If 1st Responder takes UNT, UAB chooses New Orleans after winning the title and Independence picks La Tech because of proximity, then the New Mexico bowl still needs a west team. That favors USM over FAU.

UaB will.go where they are told to go. That rule is written but its not a reality.
