Very entertaining game and shocked that Duke didn’t get the call at the end of the game.

RE: Former MBB Players
Connor Cashaw had an egregious turnover in Creighton's loss to Marquette tonight. Up 3 points with 0.8 seconds left, he was the inbounder underneath his own basket. Even though it would've basically been impossible for Creighton to lose had he just thrown the ball at anybody on the court, he (maybe it was a designed play by the coach) chose the hail mary pass. Nobody touched it, Marquette got to inbound the ball under Creighton's basket, and they banged in a 3 to send the game to overtime.
Creighton fans are...not happy (A quote from Twitter: "He's terrible, just awful...Did we not scout him at all?"). Although there's certainly some blame to be given to the coaching staff considering before that moment, he had played a grand total of...0 seconds. Weird game all around that also saw Markus Howard, who's crazy fun to watch, drop 53.
Feel for him a bit. Obviously, if you want to play at a level like the Big East, you have to be able to take some criticism. But tough to see him end his college career like this.

During Rhoades last year I sat in the stands a couple of times with an NBA assistant coach who was in town and he let me know that of all the players on that team, Chad Lott had the most potential to move to the next level. I know that Marcus Evans was a productive player for Rice and he continues to show those flashes VCU, Lott is averaging 13.8 points a game for Howard, 5.2 rebounds and is shooting 48% overall. He is only a Sophomore, so it will be interesting to see how he develops and whether he decides to have a career in hoops beyond the University level.

The stunning final sequence to end regulation is what will haunt the Bluejays more than anything. And Creighton coach Greg McDermott said it was his fault.
“We’re up three. There’s eight-tenths of a second left,” he said. “It’s my responsibility to bring that home and I didn’t do it. So, this one’s on me.”
The Jays (10-6, 1-2) even huddled during a timeout to set up their inbounds plan. McDermott said if Cashaw couldn’t find a teammate open underneath the Golden Eagles’ hoop, he was advised to toss it up to Krampelj near the opposite foul line.
Ty-Shon Alexander, who finished with a team-high 23 points, and Davion Mintz, who added 21, collided. Mitch Ballock didn’t get free.
So Cashaw threw the ball toward Krampelj. It bounced twice before landing on the opposite end line.

Actually, the right play in that situation, if no one is guarding you, is to drop it right at your feet with almost no momentum, but so that it stays inside the 3-point line. The scramble to get the ball, even if they quickly scoop for a layup, should end the game.
Heck, if you're being guarded, just throw it to the guy guarding you (maybe near his knees) and let him make a layup. You still win by 1. Why no one has ever done that (that I'm aware of) is beyond me.

Probably depends on time out situation

Yep, it's confounding. If you're a coach, the very last thing on the planet you're telling your inbounder is to throw it long. If you're at 4 seconds mentally, just throw it at any of your guys. Slightest deflection and the game is over. Or as you said, just roll it. So, so many options better than a football pass.

I thought this thread's title was meant to ask who here might be a former MBB player?

He is playing against tougher competition then at Rice. (11-21-2018 12:39 AM)Almadenmike Wrote: St. John's beat VCU in OT tonight, 87-86.
An Evans turnover with 33 seconds to go in regulation led to a layup that gave St. John's the lead ... and Marcus missed one of two FTs with 5 ticks left. He scored 7 of VCU's 13 OT points, but missed a 3 at the buzzer.
In 27 minutes, Evans scored 12 points (4-11, 1-6 from 3, 3-7 FTs), 1 assist, no rebounds, 4 fouls, 6 turnovers, 2 steals and one block.

VCU lost to Davidson today. Rams wouldn’t be in the tournament if season ended today.
Can’t say I’m sad.

Interestingly enough, they have the 7th ranked defense and the 231st ranked offense. Complete reverse from his time at Rice.

Creighton loses at home to Villanova. They’re going to be hard-pressed to make the tournament unless they improve down the stretch big-time.
