Basketball is relies heavily on the legs - jumping, quick cuts and bursts of speed - most players never fully regain these pre-injury abilities after ACL. Hopefully with time DP gets back most of his mobility abd doesn't get reinjured.

Ok so Pippen's was a torn ACL? I still hadn't heard what the actual injury was.

Micro-fracture surgery IIR ... last KSU player I recall with that was Rod Sherman. No sure, but he might have been a redshirt, too.

Oh, well that's disheartening. Microfracture surgery has derailed many careers (like Greg Oden) and many doctors don't recommend it for NBA players anymore. 23 NBA players have had it since 2003. 9 needed another surgery and 5 of those needed multiple additional surgeries. Supposedly it's a surgery that can lead to a lengthy rehab and while players can get back to full strength it usually shortens their career. Below is an article about Amare Stoudamire's problems coming back from it. In it there's a 2018 study that, based on the studies criteria, found this surgery to have a 66% failure rate with the failure time of 4 years. The alternative surgery had a 51% failure rate and a failure time of 8.4 years. For Pippen's sake, I hope whoever was advising him to get this surgery had his long term health and career in mind and not his chances of playing this season in mind... However, for the first time in his basketball career, his weight (or lack thereof) will work in his favor.

Cleveland, Rod Sherman did, indeed, redshirt a year after his injury.
