Football Polls so punishing to G5 conference schools
In the current coaches poll UCF is rewarded moved up three positions beating a ranked team UC. UC is punished for losing to a now #8 ranked team to being unranked. Must be the eye test thing. I'm not saying we shouldn't drop, but not unranked and behind some 3 and 4 loss teams.

I watched last night. We are not a Top 25 team.

A close loss would've merited remaining ranked. It was not close.

If losing to a top 10 team on the road (even soundly) disqualifies a team from being in the top 25 then none of the teams 10-25 should be in there. There are four 4-loss teams in the top 25. Hell, Pitt has 4 losses AND got beat by UCF worse than we did. Plus a 45 point drubbing by Penn State. Lots of flaws with all of the teams outside the top 10.

Most computer polls will have UC around 25 or so. Win Saturday and we will be back in. The only the counts is the CFP poll.

Beat ECU and win a bowl game. That will earn a final top 25 ranking.

Yup. And doing so would give us an "A" for the season. Still within reach.

So, is Syracuse now unranked? They weren't close.

The Cuse dropped 7 spots with heir loss but started out ranked 12 so their loss and subsequent fall in the rankings didn't take them out of the rankings like it did UC. They also lost to the #5 team not the #11 team.

Pitt also beat #19 Syracuse and 2 teams that are getting top-25 votes (Duke and Virginia).

Our best wins (USF and Ohio) aren't getting any votes in the polls.

If we had Pitt's schedule, we'd be lucky to have the same record they do. 7-4 Georgia Tech is their 7th best opponent (they've played #3 Notre Dame, #8 UCF, #15 Penn State, #19 Syracuse, and Duke and UVA are getting votes).

AP poll just released. We finish the regular reason at #29. Hopefully a bowl win will get us a proper top 25 ranking...

Why is BSU, Army, FS and Utah State above us with same 2 losses.

Where the schedules better?

Nope. It's been mentioned in another thread, but Utah State has only beaten exactly 1 team with a winning record (8-5 Hawaii).

Actually, to be fair, Boise State does have some nice wins and probably should be ranked ahead of us. Army has a better "best win" than we do (Buffalo) but their overall schedule is weaker. Fresno State and Utah State have no business being ranked ahead of us.

I knew the answer but just wanted to see if others agreed or were wrong. Army big win was Buffalo oh my a powerhouse. Boise State should be ahead of us. FS and US no way.

Army lost to Oklahoma in overtime which actually looks solid. I tend to view OT games as ties to a certain extent. Win the bowl game get ranked.
