Davis Cheek tore his ACL and Malcolm Summers tore his hamstring. Both had surgery in October. 0% chance they return in the postseason. Cheek probably won’t be back until Summer of 2019.

Weather is going to be miserable Saturday. Cold rain throughout the day. Students out for Thanksgiving. Will we even get 10K in the stadium?

We will announce something in the 12k-15k range, which will include hundreds of tickets given away to charity. That being said, there's no way with the students gone, Thanksgiving weekend/short notice/lack of expecting to play, and the impending weather that we put more than 8k butts in seats. That's not being a Debbie Downer, that's just reality.

That being said, the 8k that will be there probably make up about 60% of the ~23k fans that actually yell and stomp, so it'll be fine. The 1.5-2k fans we had at Towson were plenty loud. Hopefully RMC is reasonable and let's folks file down and fill in the sections closer to the field. Never had a problem with that in 104.

RE: Delaware @ JMU 3pm 11/24
Gotta hand it to JMU for opening the dorms back up on Saturday (at noon I believe?). Many students are going to be ready to go home after a week with their family. What better excuse to come back to JMU than to support the Dukes!
It used to matter to me that we weren't getting more people to the games during playoffs, but it isn't just a JMU issue. The good news is that even with depleted attendance we still have more fans than many schools could only dream of having.

It's been said before, but I wouldn't mind them closing the upper deck just to fill the lower bowl. If we were to sell out, then open up the deck to the overflow.

As mentioned before, the fans that will be there are fans that want to be there. I expect everyone there will be there the entire game. I expect those fans there to be angry and loud.
I will definitely be there. I will definitely be loud and very angry. I will not have a voice for the next few days and I'm sure my family will be overjoyed.

During this morning's CAA coaches call-in, I got the answers I was hoping to hear when Coach Ambrose talked about how loud we were and how well we traveled and that his players were a bit shook up by it and had never experienced that kind of crowd before at a home game. I just want those same folks and thousands more to do it again this Saturday. We are the 12th man!

Give a listen around the 7:25 mark he talks about the JMU game.

I always thought that the Athletic Department should take a picture of our crowd at every away game to provide to future conferences as our ability to travel. When I have been to games against bigger venue schools (UMD, NC State, UNC, etc) I frequently hear it remarked that will travel better than some of their conference mates.

If JMU is going to help you sell an additional 5-10k tickets at your home games, we become much more attractive.

7500 x $50 * 4 = $1,500,000 for football. Add in hoops and in could be a $2,000,000 impact. Ask Mason how we used to take over the patriot center when there was a rivalry and we were good.

RE: Delaware @ JMU 3pm 11/24
Indeed. My coworker who an NC State season ticket holder said we were probably the best traveling team they'd face all year. Only competition would be ECU (on a good year). Granted, it doesn't hurt for FBS games that it's our one FBS opponent each year, but even for games against Towson, Richmond, etc we get several thousand in the Mid-Atlantic and usually 1k+ in New England. Plus I'm sure that if we joined a conference with more southern schools, most people would be much more agreeable to traveling south in the late fall as opposed to going to far north...

Nope, bid packages are still submitted, and in the case of JMU v. UD, bid amount seems most likely the key thing. UD's stadium and attendance didn't likely play a big role. Item #2 is essentially the bid amount.

From a prior thread (again):

The official hosting criteria for non-seeds is now:
1) quality of facility
2) revenue potential plus estimated net receipts
3) attendance history and potential
4) team’s performance (conference place finish, head to head results, number of Div I games)
5) student athlete well being (travel and missed class time)

Bid packages are still submitted. Some folks question whether the primary (only?) criteria is the bid amount, or the other factors matter too.

But this is a significant departure from the old rules that said something to the effect of "The bids are open and highest bid gets the game, unless there are any serious facility issues".

I think this was awarded to JMU for all 5 of those reasons, and I don't think #2 is code for the number in the envelope.

It would be in JMU's best interests to not even sell upper deck seats and allow general admission to fill the lower bowl of BFS instead. It's more advantageous from a sound perspective to pack us in fewer sections.

I was at the Delaware - NDSU game. It was early in the season. Not much of an offense or defense at that time. NDSU got up 35-0 at the half and coasted the rest of the way. JMU should be able to do the same.

JMU Won't inflate the attendance number because we owe a portion of receipts to the NCAA. You know how this works.

Good point. 8k it is then.

Just saw they are bringing back the scholarship and meal plan giveaway for students at the game. If I had a kid at JMU, you better believe their ass would be at that game!

When I went home and listened the JMU fans were way louder than Towson fans. You could not even hear their fans when we had the ball. When they had the ball it you could easily hear our fans.

Just have extra coffee and hot chocolate stands for $1 on the lower concourse.

Not a bad idea, but not going to happen due to 1) giving season ticket holders and option to purchase their regular season tickets, & 2) there our premium seats on top that pay more for admission.
