Lunsford has done well but he did have a much better program to start with than Napier. Anderson, Satterfielld and Brown had loaded guns to start with so, especially in stAte's case, I don't see them as COY candidates.

Napier took over a 5-7 team and they are 6-5 currently. Wow talk about overcoming the odds 07-coffee3

I’ll say it again, 65 scholarship players on the entire roster. A locker room that actually fought with coaches. I don’t think you understand what kind of mess that Napier took over.

We blew the Coastal game, but were really just playing a 10 game season. There was no way we would compete with Miss St or Bama.

Lunsford took over a team that was good and coached by an idiot. It’s not like Sommers had 3 straight losing seasons and under NCAA sanctions.

But you’re right, let’s bow down to the gnat eaters in Statesboro.

Georgia Southern was under NCAA sanctions through 2016 and 2017 too, but we’re suppose to bow down to the snail eaters in Lafayette because y’all are barely bowl eligible? Okay...

Where have you even been all season? Surprising that you Cajuns are only just now coming back to the board considering your new coach has completely re-energized your program and all

Your attempt at an insult was an epic fail.

It would take me a very long time to list out everything, but here are some highlights:

1. Skipping practice the day before our last home game when we are supposedly “fighting” to get bowl eligible.

2. Completely lost control of the team against Ark State. We got our asses kicked, started a fight, and then slammed a player to the ground 5-10 seconds after the whistle. It was a cluster ****.

3. Our leading RB has either apparently left the team due to his dissatisfaction with our OC or he has been benched indefinitely. Not sure which. Over a benign tweet that even Moglia said wasn’t a big deal. So does Moglia not even know he got benched? Is he that out of touch with what’s going on in the program? I guess he is if he isn’t even showing up to practice the day before a “big” game.

4. Apparent vengeful behavior by our OC not allowing our best QB to play because he has a personal issue with him. Joe not doing anything about that.

5. Overall the rumblings are from within the program that our OC is pissing off a lot of players, and Joe apparently is either unaware, doesn’t care, or is too damn stupid to do anything about it.

6. After getting our asses kicked for a 3rd week in a row, he talks about how proud he was of our performance because we “tried our hardest and that’s all he can ask for.”

7. Absolutely ZERO improvement on defense over his entire tenure. He hired Mickey Matthews which anyone with half a brain knew was beyond idiotic, then he took 2 years too long to fire him. Then he hired our current DC (Sanders) who he called up from the high school ranks to take a D1 FBS DC job. Why you may ask? Because they were old buddies from back in the day. And our defense looks just as bad this year if not even worse.

8. Hiring Jamey Chadwell was obviously a mistake because of other issues listed above. Couple that with number 7, and you see that his decision making abilities are questionable at best. Considering he does nothing but half way oversee the program as a figure head, it’s even MORE important that he gets people in there that are capable. He’s failed miserably at that.

No one expected us to beat App, stAte, Troy, or GS. But damn, at least be half way compeitive! ULM embarrassed us too. Our losses are half way understandable but the absolute thrashings we are taking are not. And the seemingly apathetic attitude he has about these performances is even more alarming. From not showing up at practice, to seemingly not even knowing what is going on with the strife between Chadwell and his players, to the nonchalant “aw shucks” attitude when we get humiliated on the field, it just paints a really bad picture.

If GSU beats Ga State, Lunsford is the unanimous CotY. If we lose, he still wins it in a close race.

I chose Lunsford, he has come in and made a difference in a short amount of time to a proud program. It's one thing to right the ship in a program that has low expectations but we know that's not Southern.

RE: Coach of the year?
It's a shame that consistently good programs rarely get coaches of the year because they never have a miraculous turnaround. Satterfield will likely finish his career without a Sun Belt coach of the year, despite multiple championships, bowl wins, 10 win seasons, etc. Oh well.

Meanwhile, Trent Miles and Paul Petrino... lol

I despise all things GS but have to give credit where credit is due. Lunsford achieved a great turnaround with the Stink and took it to App on a certain Thursday night. Napier gets a close second IMO.

Lundsford. The players are the same. The coach is different, therefore the coach gets the credit.

Idaho did have a pretty good year, but to give it to someone that didn't even have a winning season? I know it was a 5-win turnaround from the previous season, and he led them to their first bowl, still lost more games than won that season. While Satterfield went 11-2 (4-win turnaround.) Satterfield should have won hands down in 2015.
Fun Fact:
Neal Brown is the only SBC coach of the year still coaching in the Sunbelt.

I'm in for Sat. Something to be said for consistency. Why he's still there is a mystery. Honestly if someone doesn't poach this guy "this year" something we're not seeing or aware of is making this hire an uneasy decision. Could it be geography? Screwum if they don't. Man deserves a promotion. Bad as I'd like to see him go I'd rather have him in the Sun Belt. Keeps GS chasing his ars. Thanks Sat. We'll return the favor soon enough.

RE: Coach of the year?
The results for this poll are hilarious.

Roughly 90 percent of Lunsford's votes come from his own fan base. Napier got a higher percentage of votes from outside his fan base than Lunsford did. There's just a lot of Eagles fans on here.

Troy fans generally did not vote for Neal Brown, outside of everyone's favorite Troy Homer CBT.

Blake Anderson leads the "troll votes" category. Of his 9 votes, 8 of them came from App State fans. Poor OsageJ is the only AState fan to vote for him.

The only person on here who can claim he's seen most of the teams in this league play in person this year, voted for Matt Viator.
