RE: CUSA bowl situation - final week of season
Final weekend games involving teams with 5 wins
71 teams in already

Baylor (5-6) at Texas Tech (5-6)...winner is 72
Purdue (5-6) at Indiana (5-6)....winner is 73
Tennessee (5-6) at Vanderbilt (5-6)...winner is 74

So these teams are fighting it out to join the 6 win club:
Miami, OH (5-6) host Ball St (4-7)
Coastal Carolina (5-6) at South Alabama (2-9)
Florida St (5-6) host Florida (8-3)
Tulane (5-6) host Navy (3-8)
Wake (5-6) at Duke (7-4)
TCU (5-6) host Oklahoma St (6-5)
Wyoming (5-6) at New Mexico (3-8)
Maryland (5-6) at Penn St (8-3)
Minnesota (5-6) at Wisconsin (7-4)
Arizona (5-6) host Arizona St (6-5)
SMU (5-6) at Tulsa (2-9)
Southern Miss (5-6) at UTEP (1-10)
FAU (5-6) host Charlotte (4-7)
Kansas St (5-6) at Iowa St (6-4)
Colorado (5-6) at California (6-4)
USC (5-6) host Norte Dame (11-0)

**VT (4-6) host Virginia (7-4)... If VT wins they will play Marshall in a makeup game. They lose they’re season is over.

RE: CUSA bowl situation - final week of season
Conference situation

American - 6 in, 2 bubble
ACC - 9 in, 2 bubble, and VT with 4 wins but 2 games remaining
Big 12 - 5 in, 4 bubble (2 bubble teams face each other so 6 guaranteed)
Big 10 - 7 in, 4 bubble (2 bubble teams face each other so 8 guaranteed)
CUSA - 6 in, 2 bubble
Independents - 3 in, 0 bubble
MAC - 6 in, 1 bubble, Akron with 4 wins but 2 games left
MWC - 6 in, 1 bubble
PAC 12 - 7 in, 3 bubble
SEC - 10 in, 2 bubble and those 2 play each other so 11 in and 0 bubble (Ole Miss ineligible)
Sun Belt 6 in, 1 bubble

Summary:
39 bowl games so 78 teams
71 teams have clinched
6 bubble teams meet so 3 more guaranteed which puts it at 74

Appears there could be 80+ 6 win teams so USM might need FAU to lose so we’re not fighting them for CUSA’s 7th team.

Thanks for putting the time in and posting all this information. First we need to get to 6-5 and I hope we make a bowl. Would we be ahead of the 6-6 teams in the pecking order?

Not sure how that works but don’t think it’s guaranteed as last year UTSA finished 6-5 (game vs Houston canceled due to hurricane that hit Houston area) and they were the lone CUSA bowl eligible team left out while La Tech, MTSU and WKU went bowling at 6-6

And unfortunately that bowl could end up being Bahamas, Hawaii or New Mexico....but I guess that's better than not being in a bowl.

I think this year would be a great year to take our turn in the Bahamas or Hawaii (iffen we're fortunate to get past the El Paso juggernaut this weekend).

We might get the call over FAU. We sell more bowl tickets, historically. Would be neat to go somewhere different.

I was thinking the same thing, but Kiffin is a celebrity. ESPN may push for him.

FAU lost so bowl eligible teams stays at 80 while maximum amount that can qualify drops to 85

And makes the Pecoraro move to FAU look even worse considering how good our D was this year.
