The confident play of Rafferty (especially after missing the 1-1 that could have sealed it in regulation), Mounce (that 3!!!! where did it come from??? He was 5-24 from 3 last year.), redshirt freshman Gurley (2 huge free throws) and Lyons (playing big, but not forcing it after his record setting night hitting 15 three's earlier) was all amazing.

These guys are learning stuff about what they can do that will be invaluable from here on out. Why shouldn't they trust themselves and each other to make the big time play … every time! They've just done it twice in front of the world.

The Southern is looking to be a STRONG league this year. Could be one of the strongest years ever?

Amazing run they've had this week. Some nice nuggets within this:

13 things to know about the Paladins

And a bit less so here:

Kansas and Michigan are safe - at least until the tournament

Furman won the rebounding contest 47-40, with Rafferty pulling in 17 of those. I love it that they are 2-0 all-time vs. 'nova. Paladins' starters all played at least 34 minutes, and only played 8 guys. They also took *9* more FTs, and made *10* more than 'nova. At 'nova.

Mounce didn't hit a good percentage from three point range last year, but he was always confident. He is now shooting 53% from three for the season. I don't know if he can keep that percentage for the year but he will have a monster year if he can. He can slash to the hoop with authority. Gurley is really smooth off the dribble. He has a good shooting stroke. I think he will improve his three point percentage as the season progresses.

Those two are 6'7" and 6'8" but play a wing/small forward's game. A great complement to Rafferty's steady, tough play inside.
