Les Miles to Kansas
The domino fall that could have affected Creighton is not going to happen there.

Dear Jerry,
Mr. Miles has a very checkered past. He has won where he has been, but problems seem to show up, and the show moves on. They must be pretty hard up to go with him. and I'll bet they will be paying him a bundle.

Poor Les. That is destined to fail. He should have picked a mid-major with a better chance of winning...

Great hire by Kansas. If he wins 8 games in a season they build a statue of him. Love the hire.

As for CC - I am REAL worried about Brohm hiring on at Louisville and Purdue coming for him OR Matt Campbell at ISU moving up and the Cyclones coming for him.

What an awful hire. The only way that this works out is if Les finds an offensive coordinator to move his game into the 21st century. He will be working with a decided talent gap that will take years to fix, and hes not a young guy to begin with...

Bottom line, if you are Kansas football, you either take a flier on the best young offensive mind in the game right now... OR you think outside of the box and go with an offense that can hide some of your talent issues... Something like the flexbone triple option attack comes to mind.

Be different... clearly the status quo has not worked there. Instead, you hire a tired old retread coach.

Les could be a good hire. He did well at Oklahoma state. His pro style run heavy personnel could go against the grain enough in the big 12 it could cause fits for some teams. Needs to recruit the JUCO's in Kansas hard. I'm interested to see what happens there. Also interested to see if Bielema or Pelini show up somewhere.

RE: Les Miles to Kansas
I think this is a great hire for Kansas. Les is not coming back for the money, he just settled for $1.5M from LSU when he was due $6.5M. He just loves to coach and at age 65, he does not have to worry like Chris Creighton or Jeff Brohm if he is taking a job at a graveyard program that will kill his future. He is playing with house money.

Most of all I like that a Power 5 vacancy is being filled without Creighton's name being mentioned. Dan and I are perhaps paranoid about this. Tough says no worries and in my opinion he is most insightful and prescient poster in this group regarding football.

I'm gonna relax about Creighton, "In Tough I Trust".

I honestly think EMU can win 10 games next year. They are bringing so many starters on offense back and honestly the MAC west is sort of down, the table is set for CC to win the division or even the conference.

THEN he can go chase the money :D

Getting back to our DC maybe leaving, we should be looking a young FCS DC in my opinion who is familiar and likes the 4-2-5, we have the personnel to use that system. ie James Madison, Bucknell, Cal (PA)

Dear Jerry,
A bit off topic, but I know a college graduate when I see the word "prescient" involved in discussions. Good job!

Or we can look locally. D-Line coach Ben Needham, CB coach Fred Reed, and Safeties coach Todd Frakes ALL have DC experience. Needham at Kent State, Reed at Buffalo, and Frakes in a low-pro European league. It might be a good idea to stay with continuity.

We could always call Chuck Bullogh at Michigan State and bring him back down.
