Loyola, Belmont, and SDSU.

+ Fighting Camels

Yeah, I forgot they were actually the top seed in Big South and not Radford.

The way the top two seeds escaped upsets in MAAC make me think Iona's likely to join the list soon, too.

You can add Lipscomb to this list after losing to Liberty...

Have 4 completed conference tournaments, and 4 NIT bid thieves in those 4 conferences. Add in South Dakota St and already have 5.. And still have a ton of what were close conferences in regular season to come. We're going to have at least 10 NIT bid thieves, and that number could be close to 15 when we're all said and done.

Definitely not a good night for NIT hopefuls as 3 1 seeds lose in their title game to take NIT bids. All 3 of them NIT Bid thieves. So NIT already has 8 auto bids- and still have another 7-8 chances at more NIT bid thieves.

And they all lost within 5 minutes of each other. LOL. 8 down, 24 spots left.

I think what stinks more about the NIT bid thieves are that some weren’t so far out from the bubble metrically, but we know won’t get the looks. Belmont, Hofstra, and Lipscomb might have provided a good fight in this thing, especially if they wound up falling around the 12-13 line. I mean, kudos to tonight’s winners, but, seeds 1-4 look like they will have it easy the first game if these upsets keep coming.

But, those three, and likely others in the NIT...I just hope you can other non-major bubble teams, like Furman and UNCG, running around that thing. It might make for one great tournament.

Well of the 3 that won tonight so far-
Northern Kentucky was ranked 23 spots better in the NET than Wright St
Hofstra/Northeastern 71/82 so not a huge difference there
Fairleigh Dickinson was ranked 35 spots better in the NET than St Francis was.

even some of the others you brought up-
Lipscomb- 11 spots better than Liberty
Belmont- Murray St 2 spots better than them now.
so really not much of a difference between the teams. With a couple the team that won was the better team overall just not in conference standings/tiebreakers.

WE have our 1st NCAA bid thief.....

St Mary's 60 Gonzaga 47

Also note with this, it in essence is also an NIT bid thief in that a team that would have gone to the NCAA tourney now will be relegated to the NIT, Thus shrinking that as well...

No NIT bid thief because Saint Mary’s was an NIT lock. It just flipped an NIT team with an NCAA team.

so it's funny... have had 11 conference tournaments and only 2 1 seeds won....

For all the rigging these conferences do for their conference tournaments for the 1 seeds, it isn't working. The 2 1's that won were Wofford and Iona. Both of those were straight up tournament where no special considerations given to top seeds....

Two to watch are Patriot and Ivy. Where Bucknell knows this road in Patsy, and the Ivy lays it down in the 2-seed’s house (oops, not at the Palestra). And who knows which version of Penn shows up...

I can see the NIT pool continuing the grow. I’m fine with that with NET jamming .500 or worse teams in that reachable territory.

Yale is the 2 seed, so they do have a good shot at winning the Ivy on their home court.

IMO the goals are not to guarantee that the top seed wins. The goals are (1) make it a lot more difficult for a bad team to win by making the worst teams play an extra game or two, and (2) help top teams with an at-large chance by letting them avoid an early-round game against a team that will hurt the top team's computer ratings just by playing the game.

Yeah, I’d put money down on either Yale or an inspired Penn. They looked like the teams who could carry the load in big games. But, Harvard is 6-0 versus the other three teams, the sweep at home and on the road.
