Wow, what a game. Really impressed by X's fight. Definitely two tournament teams here.

the problem for Xavier is they already have 2 OOC losses- still have likely San Diego St and then one of Iowa St/Arizona/Illinois- so very possibly at least 1 more loss in Maui- and then in December get Cincy and Missouri OOC. They could easily enter conference play with 4 or more losses. That's not conducive for a tourney team at all.

So far they've lost to two very good teams in Wisconsin and Auburn. Don't see them losing to SDSU or Cincy. They could certainly lose one more in the Maui Inv. but again thats not the end of the world. Besides who in the Big East is clearly better than them. Marquette? Butler? That conference is wide open. My money's on X being in the NCAAT.

what I see for Big East is a ton of parity where you're going to have a lot of 9-10 win teams. Which means a lot of 8-9 loss teams. If you've got 3-4 OOC losses plus 8-9 conference losses- if you're lucky you have only 11 losses going into the BET- but you could have 13 losses. 18-13 with how down the Big East seems this year doesn't get you in the tourney this year. Also, where is Xavier's big win?

Yeah, or, on the broader scale, where are any of the Big East's big wins going to be? The more teams pick up one or more good wins in the non-conference, the more the entire conference benefits, especially those who go completely soft in the non-conference and then do well in the conference season (Creighton last year, for example). Without the good non-conference wins (and those wins have to stand up for the whole season; the name on the jersey alone won't hold), doubtful that Creighton team this year, if one exists, gets a look.

I don't see parity, I just see a down league. Xavier can win that league. I don't see them losing more than 6 games in conference. They do that and notch a few wins against teams like SDSU and Cincy they'll be fine.

I suspect Xavier might not be tournament-worthy this season. But, if they are, the quality of a win over a Cincy or SDSU only means something if those guys are tournament-bound themselves.

Is the MWC good for multiple bids, and, if so, what’s their seeding potential? There’s a lot of dog crap in that conference for its good teams to suffer through.

I'm not trying to say they're a lock because at this point in the year there's less than 10 teams that we can safely are tournament bound but they have a clear path for an at large. Those two games, as well as their third round Maui game, and their road game against Mizzou would be good enough for four quad 2 wins. That plus a good performance in the BE and no detrimental losses gets them an at-large.

As for the MWC, history tells us that 2 is their ceiling and a single bid is far more likely.

Rutgers is beating Eastern Michigan 31-4 at halftime.

Is that a record for fewest points scored in a half?

D3 Lewis & Clark had the lead at the half in their game against Portland, 30-29. Portland wound up winning by 20.

Portland is 3-2. Only one of those wins are against a D1 team, Cal State Northridge. Portland was dogging it at the half its first game against NAIA Multnomah; only winning by 8 at the end.

Xavier was up 32-13 with 9:23 to go in 1st. From then on SDSU outscores them 66-42. Ouch. Xavier now needs to beat either Iowa St or Illinois to avoid going 0-3 in Maui- and with that 4 losses already with tough games left with Cincy and Missouri.. You don't want to enter conference play with 5 or 6 losses... Especially with.....

Big East 1st 40 games this year- 12 losses
Big East all 124 games last year- 23 losses

So would be on pace for 13-14 more losses this year vs last year. And in a double round robin league -those losses get doubled basically. Not what the league wants to see at all....

Ties a record for the fewest points allowed in a half since the advent of the shot clock. RU isn’t ready for prime time yet. But this looks like it will be an entertaining year.

St John's survives vs VCU on a pretty bad call I think- looked like the VCU guy was hit on the wrist for sure but the ref totally blew it.

Correct. UCI was #73 in KenPom, Tulane #168.

UCI won't ever get any highly-rated recruits, but Russell Turner is a very good coach.
