VCU is probably a 10/11 seed - and one that will give their first round opponent a nightmare.

No doubt Texas Tech is the best P5 team in Texas and Oklahoma. I hope we make another Elite 8 run with a possible shot at the Final 4.
Wouldn't mind getting put in the same regional as Tech so we might get matched up with each other.
I understand we beat UH in a super secret scrimmage before the season started.
Definitely would be an entertaining game if the 2 of us get scheduled.
Never saw a score posted but I heard it was a close game. I'd bet both teams would love a rematch. Hopefully it'd be a few rounds in if it did happen though. No sense in having any Texan on Texan bloodshed in the early stages if it can be helped.
After the beatdown we put on Kansas tonight in Lubbock, I doubt anyone wants to face Texas Tech

Last place, winless-on-the-road Cleveland State 83
First place, undefeated-at-home Northern Kentucky 77
Remember when Cleveland State went to the Sweet 16 and used the proceeds to build a 13k seat arena?

Used to be you would hear Cleveland State as an A10 candidate. Public education in Ohio was hit very hard over a decade ago. It’s been tough on these programs; very clever of CS to take their winnings and build infrastructure they could never get waiting for the state to boost them some.

Xavier beat Villanova today. Nova has had rough stretch, and the Big East has had no clear separation from #2 - #10 this year.

I don't see how this conference gets more than three bids, and even that third bid, if it's a Villanova or St. John's who continues to tank at the end...seems like a gift for the undeserving.
It's tough watching the Philly teams this year. Villanova was expected to drop off a bit this year, but this is just a really undisciplined, one-dimensional team. Penn is going to have to fight like **** to make the Ivy tournament (and that assumes Cornell falls apart), St. Joe's is lost in an aimless conference, and Temple is going to keep it close until the end it seems.

Yeah Nova is staring a 8/9 seed square in the face right now. Imagine the 1 seed that draws Nova in rd 2... Duke/Nova could be a thing in rd 2. How about that?

RE: Laughable Scores - 2018/19 Men's Basketball - pt 2
I know what you’re saying, but the committee would protect the top line from this Nova team, and let them terrorize the 2 or 3 seed opening weekend. Only a 1-seed Gonzaga would draw that kind of matchup, I imagine, but it still assumes Nova gets past the first game.
Before the skid, it felt like the team found its way, which would have horrified anyone. These kids are just that; young and fatigued. The two seniors carrying them is almost becoming cringeworthy to watch, because it’s almost like there is no rest of the team now. They probably would deserve the 8/9 line, but the name, previous success, and coach bounces them a line or so away from that mess.
With NET, bids and seeding is probably going to cause a lot of fits. And I would hate to be anyone staring at a Big Ten school opening weekend, even those who fall to the 7-11 lines. Toss in these enigmatic, inconsistent yet recognized names, you’ll have this new metric eye-to-eye with protective seeding practices. Great for Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, etc., but a nightmare for Houston, Texas Tech, Tennessee, and maybe even Virginia I bet.

I dissagree with you in that the committee has taken teams like Nova and absolutely put them on the 8/9 line...

We'll see if they slide that far. It's just a tough four-line area that has been said to be subjective and interchangeable. I'm trying to recall a time when they've done that to defending, major national champ, and hung them out there against a 1-seed.
I don't disagree that it could happen. But I see that pairing going to a Gonzaga or Virginia, but definitely not a Duke, or, more likely, getting the 7-seed so they have to throw it down against a Houston, Tennessee, or maybe a Nevada (if they get that high).
Seeding is the most challenging part of the committee's work, imo...it's also the most suspect.

well the committee totally snubbed Kentucky a few years ago when they were the defending champions.

That’s a whole different can, but I could see Villanova slide out of the tournament if they they can’t string more than two more wins from here on out (including the tournament). Sounds out there given the final conference record, but, we know the good losses, but where really are the good wins? The bad or questionable losses are piling up.
Like Kentucky, it wouldn’t be undeserved, especially if they can’t get at least one over Marquette.

And in another laugher, San Jose State just got their first conference win beating University of New Mexico 89 to 82.
Lobos are in a tailspin.

Is there any athletic program with FBS football that's weaker than San Jose State? They're awful on and off the field in the revenue sports and it's not like they're especially successful in the Olympic sports either. I'm sure they have their unique challenges but you'd think they would have at least one consistently good program just by accident.

UConn football is pretty trash but their overall athletic program is pretty solid.

That's what I mean, most schools have at least one sport—and usually multiple ones—where they're at least good. What is San Jose State's signature sport? Women's golf? They have a bunch of NCAA appearances across multiple sports, but the preponderance of them are before 2000. It's a decent sized school in a large city in California; surely they can be good at something, right?
