RE: UNT basketball gang-rape/prostitution
This all went down in Benford's final year. I didn't believe he should have coached that season. Had the administration fired him, none of this would have occurred.
None of this is a reflection on McCasland's team, and should not be attributed to any current members of the program.

Poppycock. I’ll think what I want.

If true, issue death penalty for the program. No, I'm not kidding.

The other option is to promote them to P5.
(I am kidding. And you should be too.)

Dang that's not good . This could be death penalty, if you lose basketball team & no baseball. Would you be eligible to stay in D1.

It seems that currently UNT has 8 men’s sports and 9 women’s sports:
MEN
Football
Basketball
Cross-Country
Golf
Soccer
Tennis
Track and Field
Swimming/Diving
WOMEN
Basketball
Cross-Country
Golf
Soccer
Softball
Tennis
Swimming/Diving
Track and Field
Volleyball
IF I have their sponsored sports correct and they lose men’s basketball, it would appear that they can still remain D1. The NCAA website stated that there have to be 7 men’s and 7 women’s OR 6 men’s and 8 women’s sports sponsored.
Any UNT fan can chime in if I have made an error on the sports offered at UNT.

RE: UNT basketball gang-rape/prostitution
It comes down to this: a couple of players and a team trainer did some awful things and they are currently being dealt with by the courts. All of those individuals have been gone from the university for awhile. Contrary to the reporter's claim, the University was upfront about the entire process which is why it was and isn't a media scandal. Our school learned some lessons from watching the Baylor fiasco. The only questionable thing you could say is why the assistant coach isn't in trouble with the law but that was a decision by the police, not UNT.
I do take exception to the reporter speaking with an "expert" who proclaimed this is a cover up when that expert has spoken to no one involved in the process and done no research into the situation. This just seems like a reporter trying to make a headline.

RE: UNT basketball gang-rape/prostitution
I know the law is different from State to state but in Texas you are either a Peace Officer or you aren't. UNTPD are Peace officers, they had jurisdiction over the case, they investigated and forwarded it to a grand jury, and the grand jury did their job.
The sexual assault charges were not pursued by the GJ, the promoting prostitution was. People have been sentenced, others awaiting charges.
No cover up, everyone reported as they should. Denton PD and UNTPD work together all the time just like any two neighboring PDs do. Just like any other department, if the UNTPD lacked skills would kick a case to a department that did. They had officers that met the state mandates and investigated, they did not quash the case, they forwarded the case to the DA, the DA did their job.

If Baylor didn't get the death penalty, this doesn't deserve the death penalty. This is Baylor lite. UNC, Penn State, Louisville. There have been plenty of cases where the death penalty could have been appropriate and they haven't done it. They shouldn't start with North Texas.
This wasn't good, but we've seen far worse get a slap on the wrist. It would be unfair for them to drop the hammer on this one.

Usually self imposed or on campus police with jurisdiction can press charges. Although the NCAA has their own rules wwhich they can impose at their discretion

They should have as well. Baylor should no longer have a football program.

Baylor was the first of its kind and they had tons of penalties and it's still on going. First time Baylor got away with it, I'm sure NCAA is looking to make an example. Not saying it's UNT but this is very serious

Baylor certainly should have. Along with some of the others I mentioned. But the NCAA set a precedent. If they want to go back and DP some of the teams I mentioned then they can crack down on UNT with abandon, but if not then they don't need to make an example out of a G5 team like they always do.

Without photos of the prostitutes, this never happened.
