Jimmye Laycock's Last Game
CAA Compatriots,

Thought some of you might be interested in reading our piece on 39-year W&M Head Coach Jimmye Laycock, and what he's meant to the Tribe. He'll coach his final game for W&M on Saturday before retiring thereafter; 350+ former players are expected to be in attendance.

A CAA mainstay for several decades, he will be missed.

Good luck in your final game, and the postseason thereafter Dukes!

Pretty cool article. I always have had a lot of respect for Coach Laycock, and admiration for his dedication to W&M. I remember meeting him on a recruiting trip and he told us recruits the Boston College story over dinner. Even at 17 years old I knew that was pretty remarkable. Anyone with that kind of dedication and commitment to a program should be commended. I can only hope a similar article is written about Houston and JMU many years from now.

I definitely hope he goes out with a win over Richmond.

The only way for a career like that to end is with a Win. I'll be rooting for it to happen.

RE: Jimmye Laycock's Last Game
Good luck! Richmond is the rich kids' school.

This does kind of make me laugh because when I was little we had downstairs neighbors in our student housing in California who were from the south. The parents' names were Jim and Billye and they had two daughters whose names, so help me, were Jimmye and Billye Jo. They also had a cat named Dusty. As all four humans' names were on their mailbox, my dad used to threaten to write the cat's name as "Dustye" at the bottom.

I hope Laycock goes out with a win. I have watched him at Zable stadium for the last four decades and have thought that he did very well over the long haul. You wouldn’t know it now, but he was an offensive innovator and a passing QB guru long before college football shifted that way.

Have they named a successor? Those are some huge shoes to fill

Good luck to the Tribe. The number of former players coming back for his final game says it all.

Heck, it was probably still Cary Field back then (and sat more than it does today, even w/ the expansion).

Legend and class act. That type of longevity may never be seen again in the caa.

Nice article! His longevity is a rarity these days. Glad he’s going out on his terms. Now go beat Richmond.

Congratulations to Coach Laycock for his long tenure at W&M. He is a class act and I hope he stays around CAA football.
