UIC just got $9.3 million plus scholarship money for the naming rights to the Pavillion.
Seems relevant considering NIU still hasn’t found a partner for the Convo.
Big big difference between DeKalb and Downtown Chicago especially when you consider the different events they host beside the Flames.

They also host a lot more events and are prime location. Not really apples to apples unfortunately. At this point I'm surprised they don't settle for someone with a little less money though.
Take the $$ now instead of nothing and at the end of contract look for a new sponsor for more $$.

RE: Pavilion Naming Rights
NIU needs to improve event booking at the Convo to even lure a partner. No one will pay to slap their logo on something that's never seen. Need to upgrade the level of events to attack more and raise the value of the venue first.

What? Terersa Caputo didn't attract you or big sponsors to NIU?

Yep. And it's just off the Eisenhower (I-290) going into/out of Chicago. There are a lot of people who see that building every day?

RE: Pavilion Naming Rights
UIC had been looking at building a new Pavilion. Guess that’s off the table.
No matter how much lipstick you put on it, the Pavilion at its heart is still a hockey rink with the scoreboard a mile behind the basket.

RE: Pavilion Naming Rights
My daughter went to Valpo as an undergrad and I became a big fan of the basketball program under the Drews. She was a cheerleader, so I took in a lot of games, including several at the Pavilion. It is, without question, the most unappealing basketball arena I have ever set foot in. Absolutely hated going there.

+1. Hockey seating, faraway scoreboard, slow/sparse concessions (miss more gametime in 5k BB than 50k FB) when crowded, mold in rafters, computers crashing on gameday freezing ticket lines.
Convo is better in every fashion. Just doesn’t see eyeballs in DeKalb.

Used to be a great facility for Pro Wrestling as well. Several PPVs took place there back in the day.

WCW? I don’t believe WWF was ever there? They were always the Rosemont.

Trevor Noah coming to the Convo in December. That is a decent act.

I hope that it is well attended and I hope that NIU makes some money that night. If that does not happen with Trevor Noah there might not be an answer to this conundrum.
Congratulations and thanks to whoever had the insight and ability to arrange this programming!
